Re: Ever been ripped off by a signing agency?

Whatever happened to "Get Out The Word" and "Notex" both failures! What makes you think the members here will donate $10 to your pockets???

Don't you just hate it.....

When they delete something before you read it. That's what I get for not being on this weekend.

Re: Don't you just hate it..... Loretta

Was just an ad from that guy who wants us to pay him $10 a month so he can advertise for all of us. Remember "getting the word out"? When that failed he tried again calling it "NoteX", that failed so he is trying under a different name now.

Be careful - you are going to be referred to the scarcity mentality vs. abundance mentality forum for the correct way to look at things.

Re: Ever been ripped off by a signing agency?

Most are operating as little Ponzi Schemes.

The actual reason I found a Notary message board on the INTERNET back in 1999. I just typed the name of the Signing Service that was had ripped me off for 2 dozen signings on my search engine and it took me right to the notarypublic.com message board. It was there that I found most of my acquaintances. When the owner died we all moved to National Signing Agent.com and were marketed as a group to the NNA. Yes that's right, I have been ripped off by all sorts of unsavory characters.

This must have been a very interesting time BEFORE NNA bought NASA. I would love to read some of the history on the old boards.

Before NASA! Anyone remember when Susan P. backed on to the Notary Board? I seem to remember it was a little shady.

to the other thread by this same person ( #123704), since this was before I joined the board (I am going on my 1 yr. anniversay here ) I appreciate the warning.

Re: Ever been ripped off by a signing agency?

I remember Susan posted on the notary board complimenting the National Association of Signing Agents about how much extra business belonging to that organization brought to her and how she got much higher fees as a member and on and on but she never disclosed that she was the owner of the group. I never joined for that reason and held her in low regard.

Re: Patricia - now that's one that makes you

Susan Pence is her name, and she no longer is the owner of NASA but the NNA is, as she sold
the organization to them, I have no idea what she is up to now and dont care, I was just sorry so many bought into her sleazy company. in my opinion she started the beginning
of encouraging anyone and everyone to become a notary. NASA was the beginning of the end in my opinion but many will disagree with me.

Brenda............

The topics in the beginning are almost identical as they are now.

Folks were more helpful to each other as this is the time our "field" began. There are always a few know-it-alls that suffered from last word syndrome--just as it happens today.

Prayer requests were more prevalant than the O.T. stuff here.

The thing is, we were all so darned busy, no on had any time for the message boards!

Money hand over fist..........well now my competition is doing edocs for Transcontinental for $85 when I charge $150......That's right, 5 years ago I got $150 so with inflation. Also, many did NOT belong to NNA...

Re: Brenda............

Julie - This is not against the new folks who came in without legal, title or mortgage background, but just a few comments from my own background.

Now this is starting to seem silly to me, but I was literally horror-stricken when I learned that signing up for notarial work was a way to earn.

Times change. So must I change the way I look at things.

I am not ancient, but I am kind of from the old school where you became a notary because you needed to serve the public as a notary...usually in connection with a car dealership, a law office, or another type of notary-needing service.

It was taken very seriously. I used to laugh at the ads I saw where it said to become a "mobile notary." What? I thought. $4 (back then) for a notary stamp running around will make me money?

I would never have jumped into signings if I did not have notary experience or if I did not have title, mortgage, and legal experience. It was pretty easy for me to get into the groove, but I still learn something new all the time.

Like you, I was a notary first. Didn't have any mortgage, title etc experience, but before I became a signing agent (which I learned about from notarypublic.com - I think that was the message board Joe was referring to) I had the notary experience.

Re: Brenda............I hope this posts in the right spot

In SE Michigan, many folks who owned Mail Boxes, ETC were sought (sp) by signing companies to do the closings. Perfect, they were notaries, had office equip (most were overnighted docs) and the means to ship the docs back.

A few of us with title background jumped on the bandwagon--oh the endless battles of witnesses if the docs were signed in a non-witness state but the property was in a witness state--still a continuing battle--I just skip those over. Smile

Most DID NOT have any experience at all, which is why the message board was so helpful.

I remember Janet Lynch told us we could ask for more money and sure enough it worked. I thought there were only two companies Servicelink and FASS. Those boards opened up endless possibilites for me.

There were no training manuals, videos or materials to learn loan docs from. Again, the docs were a cakewalk for me since I had been in the business so long, but what I learned from Sue/PA was how to treat this as a business.

The newer posters will reduce the posts after a while, it gets old, but if you are new to the boards, they do contain a wealth of info.

Being a notary and making it your "career" IS relatively new, maybe not in CA, but it sure is in MI.

This is why many of us veterns to the boards, get so grouchy with the ot stuff. We had separate "pubs" shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! for those types of posts. Smile

Bushmills anyone?

1999 was a rough year for me...when did the refi boom start?

Was that about the time it kicked off?

Every now and then I talk to someone who says someone came to their house around four or so years ago and did what I do.

In Texas, where Helocs are difficult to do without title co., atty office or lender branch, it will be very slow for new notaries until reverse mortgages pick up or another low dip in the int. rate. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Re: 1999 was a rough year for me...when did the refi boom start?

I'm not sure when the "boom" started, but from what I just heard on the news earlier tonight I expect a whole lot more of Refi's coming up because of loans taken out couple of years back with ARM's....It's unusual to be busy at beginning of the month for me, but I've been getting calls back to back everyday for Refi's since the 1st...hope I didn't just "jinx myself" by saying that! ..p.s. My favorite saying: "check's in the mail"... Fortunately the Co's I work with are great!!
