OT: Allergies
This must be the worstest (sp) allergy season for me. I've spent on average 1/2 hr each morning blowing, sneezing, eye cleaning for the past 2 weeks.
I have all the you name it meds for the nose and throats, but only Visine for the eyes. I have 2 signings scheduled this afternoon and my eyes are now red, puffy and uncomfortably itchy.
Is anyone here have a great traditional home cure to suggest I might try?
Thanks...Andy

Andy, have you tried a HOT shower? That has been helpful for me sometimes...

I feel for you... I have relief not a "cure" it works really well if you can force yourself to do it. It's slightly disgusting...
Use a sinus rinse, morning and night. NeilMed makes a great one. For the eyes try Opcon-A and rinse your eyes out with water two to three times per day. Sounds simple but it works combined with the eye drops....
Last tip, if you've been using Alegra switch to Claritin. Claritin is over the counter and Alegra will soon be over the counter too...
These tips have helped my daughter almost eliminate the use of her inhaler....
Good Luck!

Bausch and Laumb(Sorry for the spelling) makes allergy drops, they stop the itch and redness etc immediately.

Go to a professional
Really Nd. My husband was a bear to live with with his allergies. Kleenex galore or his t-shirt has a quick fix, yuck, crabby sneezing, grumpy, miserable.
Last spring was soooooooooooooooo bad, he quit the otc, went to the allergist and got tested. Now he knows what he is allergic to and he started the shots. He is 100 percent cleared now. He is down to shots every two weeks, but he could kick himself for waiting so long.
I was at the gym this morning and the guy next to me had snot everywhere sneezing, wheezing (I moved) to another machine. He needs shots too.

Claritin works for me too. In addition to all the advice you've received, the only tip I would add is to shower at night. I know, it sounds to simple, but it really does help. If you must shower in the morning take a second shower before you go to bed. I was sleeping with all those irritants on me all night long and waking up miserable. Now I clear my sinuses and wash away all the crud before I go to bed and I feel much better in the am.
Hang in there Andy.

Re: OT: Allergies...Me Too!
I was miserable....Sudafed PE....over the counter...cheap...and it works. I took Claritin when prescribed by my Dr. but it takes a couple of weeks to kick in. The Dr. told me to take Sudafed with it as it is mild enough to be taken with anything. I still take Sudafed, but gave up on the Claritin....Sudafed gets rid of all the symptoms you have named. Try it!

i dont typically take meds if i can help it. i usually find something natural that will work with the sameor better results. i use a nettie pot for my allergies. you can get one at the health food store and will be amazed with the end results without having to pump meds into your system.

Nd, on the coast my whole day is spent blowing, sneezing, wheezing, etc. I could NOT deal with Oct - Dec without Decadron (cortisone) and I don't recommend that unless you need it.
Allergy shots never helped me one bit...finally after all year (year after year after year) of allergy shots in the fall they'd give me a shot of cortisone. After awhile inhalers came out ... you could just treat your nose with a shot of cortisone.
Moved off the coast and now all I need is a little dimetapp.
Dimetapp is my OTC of choice. It builds up well in about five days on me. I take the children's grape flavored and this it works best on me.
