OT - Excercise
I just got back from my first doctor prescribed bike ride (with my 8 year old little girl). 20 minutes and I was gasping for air, my legs felt like jello, and my rearend was killing me. It's only been 12 weeks since I last excercised because of surgery but it felt like years. It's going to take some getting used to again.
Are any of you avid exercisers? I know it truly does bring your energy level up and the stress level down to a minimum. We sure do need it with the stress of last minute rush jobs, fighting with SS and worrying about lag times....

We just got back from a bike ride, too! 15 miles and I know exactly what you are saying about your tush! I'm not in the best shape, but I made the trip and still had some left in my legs. . . it's the rear that wouldn't allow me to go any further! I even have a gel seat. . .don't waste your money! Maybe we need to invest in one of those old fashioned wide seats!
We also had the pleasure of getting stuck in a thunderstorm!

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure........
in January and was put on medication. I'm 37 years old. In March I started walking/jogging every night for 40 minutes with my dog. I also started watching what I eat (drastically cut down on fast food, more fruits, veggies, and water, etc.). I had my last cigarrette on February 1st. At that time I weighed 245 pounds. As of 2 weeks ago, I weigh 210 and lowered my blood pressure enough that my doctor is going to take me off the medication. I also lowered my cholesterol from a whopping 295 to 237. Sometimes I don't feel like going for a run but then I look at photos of myself on the wall and for some reason I get motivated all of a sudden.
Bottom line:
Keep it up! You'll be happy you did.

Re: to Mung/CA-the path you have taken is the most healthy
and the weight will most likely stay off. HP runs in my family and I myself was diagnosed some 10 years ago now(so in my 40's), I take BP meds twice a day and it is controlled now but would love to not take the BP meds. However as I said it runs in my family....but I learned to really calm myself at least a good 5 or more years ago, not let things upset or stay with me....stress can cause so many health issues...Good for you and your dog, a healthy owners means a healthy pooch....

3 times a week
I go to a small gym and do cardio for 30 mins and work out with a trainer for the next 30 minutes 3 times a week. I'm addicted and feel guilty if for some reason I have to skip a session. I'm in better shape than I've ever been or was 20 years ago. After the age of 40 everything starts going south and after 50, ugh, it's much worse if you don't exercise. I'm actually more toned now than I think I've ever been in my whole life. I also try to walk my dog 2 or 3 times a week.

Re: way to go Mung!!Hey you were going fishing.
Now I feel guilty about not doing any exercising! I quit smoking 7 years ago ,put on 30 pounds and have not exercised since. I need a good kick in the butt! Maybe this will help.

Okay I have the answer for your seat. Also Mung read this
I went to a bike shop and bought the kind of seat that is on an exercycle. It looks funny but I am more comfortable riding. I would rather look funny than walk funny! lol Mung good for you for quitting smoking. I quit when I got pregnant 13 yrs ago and have never regretted it. I put on weight and am still fighting that battle but I would rather fight my weight than fight for air. Stick with it cause it sounds like you are doing great. Keep us posted. Beverly

When I start I get addicted to it, when I slack off it is horrible. I personally enjoy pilates, seems to make a difference right away, and my stress levels stay down.

Pilates is a great way to get back in the swing of exercising if you have put it on the back burner for a while like I did. I now take Kickboxing at the YMCA which is 50 minutes of cardio about 3 times a week and yoga for the stretching. I have found it truly does give me lots of energy that I was lacking. If you stay with your bicycle riding you will find it gets easier as you progress with your fitness level. My husband always did a lot of bicycle riding and said it takes a while for the rear to get into gear. The gel seats are great. Stick with it!
