Problem installing HP 1320 memory

I am having a problem installing an additional 128 MB of memory. I followed the directions from the online manual (unplug printer, remove side panel, flip white clips by memory slot, slide memory card in, flip white clips back, replace side panel, plug-in printer), but the orange and green lights are blinking.

What might I have done wrong?

Lynn,
You may not have done anything wrong and the memory could be faulty or could have been damaged by static.
Unplug the printer and power it up again to see if this clears the problem.
If not remove the new memory and see if you still have a problem.
If not try to carefully re-install the memory and check again. If there is still a problem I would suspect the new memory and talk to their tech support about a replacement.
Please remember that static electricity can destroy a chip. You need to ground yourself before touching the memory.

Hope this helps.

Dave, how do I "ground "myself?

You touch a metal part of your pc or printer while it is plugged into a grounded outlet or a water pipe.
