Proprietary Lease

I'm notarizing a proprietary lease tomorrow and have never done this before, is it an Ack or Jarat? I'm in NYC.
Thanks.

For some reason I thought all that NY had was an ack sort of a thing...but remember where I am and it ain't NY.

Won't the type of notarization be determined by the wording on the document? Are you simply identifying the signers and notarizing that they signed freely or will you be administering an oath as to the truthfulness of the statements in the document?

Just to be a little clearer on my last post - don't want to mislead - I have read a little about NY's notarial certs and still don't know squat, however, it seemed like I recalled them to have one basic one...BUT that's not for sure...just hoping for a little notary work chit chat to make things interesting.

However, in my state, you do not choose the notary certificate. One is provided or the signer chooses one from the certs you are allowed to use in this state. If there are a couple of different ones in NY that's something to think on and refer to the handbook for.

I'm simply identifying the signers and notarizing, I want to be sure I have the right cert incase the lease does not have the wording and I need to attach. I've never notarized a lease before and just want to be prepared. Thanks.

No matter what the document, ...

... you don't choose whether it "needs" an acknowledgement or a jurat (unless NY law is very different from the laws in other states). Please check your state's Notary Handbook. If there is no Notorial Certificate on the document (and I'd be surprised if there weren't), then call the firm for whom the lease is being signed.

You should always have loose certificates with you, both acks and jurats.
