Question for California Notaries

How long does it take and what does a person have to endure to become a Notary in the State of California. Say if I was to start July 1st, how long of a process is it before I can start performing signings and closings and other notarial acts? I've seen info on testing and classes but is there more to it? I am very curious. Thanks all!

Click the Notary Public 101 tab at the top of this page, select California in the "Become a Notary Public" box, and click the triangle. Or, just try this link:

You will be ready to perform all lawful notarial acts after completing Step 5, loan signings included. (Though, for the latter, you should really know what you're doing first.)

California Notaries...You will have to be willing to work!!

I first downloaded the handbook, searched for a class. I went with Golden State Notary.com they offered a free DVD I got lucky because he followed the DVD in the live class $65.00. This business was totally new to me coming from commission selling major appliances, I'm use to hustling.

My son introduced the Siging Agent to me, I saw it could be worth looking into. So I signed up took the test 5/12/06 test results came in the mail 5/29 posted with the form to take a live rolling scan fingerprint for the Dept Of Justice and the state all in one shot $52.00

The form states, my background check will not be completed before 30 days so I'm looking at around July 1 or 2nd I purchased my Notary kit with the $15k Bond when I took the class.

Once I'm cleared I can fax them the doc needed to obtain my Bond. I have to go to the recorders office in Norwalk to take my oath I believe there's a filing fee I'm sure CA charge and tax you for everything!!

The day I take my oath I will order GSN's Loan Agent kit for $59.00 I take the test online and I'll receive a book with loan samples explained once I pass the test. I will also purchase BrendaTX's list of escrow and Title companies for $15.95 then I'll have a good place to start sending my grand opening notice ;-)

If you decide to join the business for whatever you do don't wait for all your paperwork to be completed. Its a perfect time to create your brand and put your marketing tools together. And I take a few times out of the week to go over my notary training manual and read the notary boards and surf around.

its a loft of foot steps after the test and live rolling scan is completed. I don't think your education ever stops because once you read the notary boards you will be taking notes everyday!! ;-) I'm so thankful people are willing to share the bad with the good!! I've learned so much.

If you are not self-motivate and self directed it will be diffcult, because its very detailed and you will have to have the right printer/paper less known to be able to follow instruction to the letter and color ink!! This business can send you to jail if you go onto the darkside, its good money if you charge to currrent rate BUT, serious business I can't stress that enough!! Just my personal opinion that my instructor branded in our heads throughout the 6 hour course.

Good Luck

I was asked to get my commission a few years ago for an insurance company law office I was employed by at the time. I took the class in the first or second week of December, and finally was commissioned the end of February. And I did everything as soon as I could. It just took time to receive the commission in the mail.
Are you moving to CA???
