Recommend Certifications
I am a newbie, and am trying to build my business (yet save costs). I have read message 33325.
I know there are different loan signing certifications. I am APN&CSA certified. What other certs are worth to also acquire?
Thanks, Bruce (yes, I did change my handle to reflect state....)

Good Morning Bruce!
Many of the signing companies give priority to signing agents, who are certified via the National Notary Association. I took the NNA's homestudy course and liked it very much. The only downside, is that you have to renew your certification every two years. However, by then you should have enough experience to work directly with title and mortgage companies!
Also, the Signing Registry has an Excellent mentorship program as well as certificate course. They also have a fine loan signing training manual for which you can purchase. Contact Kathy Poston at the Registry, 1-866-753-7577, and she can give you more information!

Or look online
The SR Training Manual (tops, in my opinion) can be found at:
http://www.signingregistry.com/?pageid=3494
There you can read about it as well as order it.

It is definitely the BEST training manual out there! I am so impressed by the material in it, and have never seen a training manual so beautifully presented. Top Quality!

PAW.....
Is there a difference between Certified and Registered? Maybe I over think things, but I can't determine if there is a standard for Certification. I have been in this business long enough to realize that some courses are preferred by Title co's etc but feel that may well be because of the Organization offering the course. They "win" by sheer volume which to me may mean excellent marketing strategies. I have also seen graduates of these courses asking the most basic questions which should have been covered in the course!

A rose is a rose ...
Since the NNA already laid claim (albeit possibly misplaced) to "Certified Notary Signing Agent", Kathy Poston didn't want any confusion when she created the certification process for Signing Registry members. Thus the "RSA" or "Registered Signing Agent", showing that a Notary Signing Agent not only possess the basic notary skills, but also a loan signing skills and experience. Unfortunately, the NNA seems to forget about the last item. I've heard many NSA's say, "I just got my commission and am certified. How do I start?" I'm not sure how anyone can be certified as a competent signing agent without any experience. But, that's a whole different thread and topic for discussion.
FWIW, I always list "Registered and Certified".

The thing I love most about Kathy's "guidebook"
is that it covers everything. I continually refer to it and I'm always delighted when I see she had the foresight to include something that I look up and bingo...there's my answer. She and her crew deserve alot of attaboy's for this manual, it's simply the best out there and I can't think of money better spent. It's right up there with the GPS!
