Response from the NNA regarding updating fee structure

I did send an email to the posted email address provided yesterday about the NNA updating their recommended fee structure on their website. I haven't seen anymore updates on this from anyone, so I'm copying the response I got in my email from the NNA.

"Thank you for your inquiry. There is no national legal standard governing the fees paid to Signing Agents. It can range anywhere between the ridiculously low ($25) to very high ($300 or more for the package). We created the minimum fee schedule as a base guideline to give Notaries some sense where they should draw the line. While we recommend that Notaries do not accept assignments for less than the minimum fee schedule, we encourage all to continue to negotiate for better compensation.

Also, we have seen time erode profit potential with skyrocketing prices affecting the bottom-line expenses a Signing Agent incurs. We have forwarded these concerns to appropriate staff and management."

Re: I would feel more encouraged by that response if the

phantom "appropriate staff and management." Had a department name and contact person. This way it sounds like lip service. Plus it is a two liner. The emphasis of which directs no real action and little consideration. It was worth a try though. Thanks Betsy!:-)

That is why I didn't want to waste my time with them

I interpret that as a letter of pacification (is that a word, LOL).
"Don't call us, we'll call you"
I lost faith in the organization.
My feeling has been that they are big business, we are unimportant.
They seem to gather all their funds from new notaries, and forget us once
our fees are paid.
I had a problem with their SA course, emailed them and called,
w/o responses for 2 years now.
The sold me the course and a 2 year membership back in 04.
I applaud the efforts of the folks who are trying to get them
to raise their recommended fees, I just don't think that it will be effective.
IMO, the only way to get through to companies who are un-responsive
to my needs, is to quit giving them money for their services.
Or, in my experience, lack of services.

I would urge you to reconsider

I have posted above their response and purported course of action. Keep the heat on at [e-mail address]

Re: I would urge you to reconsider

I do have a plan of action to address the issue.
I intend to send in my renewal with a letter of WHY
I won't be renewing (lack of service, lack of response,
low fee recommendations)
I am quite surprised at their quick response.
Like I said, I tried to get them to help me with their SA course issues
in 2004, and after repeated emails and calls that were never addressed
or responded to, I lost faith.
But I applaud you and your efforts.
I have reconsidered and will send an email to the address you have listed here.
I just won't get my hopes up.
Jaded, jaded jaded! (me)

Re: I would urge you to reconsider

Thank you for the e-mail, you may want to include your previous grievance to Mel, leave a phone number where he may reach you. I can't disagree with your decision, if not for the amount of calls I get from their NSA I would have done it along time ago. Got two doubles from Title I hadn't worked with before last week. Can't ignore those kind of results. But thank you for the e-mail:-)

Re: Here is the response I received from my e-mail

Thank you for your inquiry. These concerns are already under review by management so they could begin work on implementing changes. It is simply a minimum fee schedule not a maximum restriction and designed as a sort of a safety net for Notaries to use as a base and then use their judgment to establish their own set of fees.

Unfortunately, time has eroded profit margins and therefore the minimum fee schedule will be reviewed to assist those that need some sort of schedule.

Re: I have never gotten a call connected with NSA

I have been registered for 4 years with NSA and have handled over a 1000 signings and have never gotten anything from them. I have had a lot from Notary Rotary were I didn't have to pay any fee at all.
