Traveling with minor but Spose recently Deceased
My question is I need to do a letter for a woman who needs to travel outside the country with her kids. She indicates she is flying to Mexico to bury her husband. My question is, typically I need the non traveling spouse to grant permission. If that spouse is deceased then what? Do I use a couple of witnesses? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Carlos Quezada [e-mail address]

did hubby die in us or mexico? Either country, if he is recently deceased, a death cert will probably not be available yet.
Not your problem. Tell the woman to call the airline or the mexican consulate's office.

Julie has it right.
"Not your problem." sums it up completely.

That was my thought exactly. But then what do I know? LOL
From what I have been told by travel agencies and read, for a child to leave the country with only one parent, a letter of permission to travel outside of the country has to accompany them from the other parent. So maybe child's birth certificate to show father's name and the death certificate. I would think if they are traveling to bury him, they would have a death certificate upon release of the body. Definitely, the woman should contact proper authorities to ask what is necessary. I'm just speculating.

Thanks Missy!
I've never heard that before, but then I never have been lucky enough to travel out of the country.... Haven't crossed state lines since I was a kid either... I'm getting depressed!
Anyway thanks for the info... It's good to know... Have a great day!

Re: Thanks Missy!
Until later years, I was like you. I was lucky to say I had been one county over. LOL. A while back with all the talk of non-loan work I did some research and approached some local travel agencies. It seems with all the divorced people it is becoming common to have a notarized travel permission. Also in years past when I got divorced and traveled with my daughter out of the country I had to have a permission letter from my X (her dad) that it was ok with him for me to take her out of the country. Didn't have to have it notarized but times are changin'.

Huh? why?
I guess I'm not understanding, but why would this woman need permission to take her own children out of the country if her husband, is in fact, deceased?

I'm confused too Jan... Why does she need permission to travel with her own kids... Also Carlos, what do you mean by "I need to do a letter for a woman"
