What I Do Not Understand!

I am still (somewhat) new, and am still learning.

Yesterday, several (yes several) people telephoned me for a signing. The first one called in the morning and I said yes. The others telephoned in the afternoon (one I also said yes to, for later on that evening).

Now, when I told the other callers that I was already booked for two appointments, each stressed the point that their signing was "URGENT"! One person, even asked me, if I could "squeeze" in a third (between the two appointments I already had.) I explained to this person (again), that both of my appointments were in separate towns, and not close to each other!

Another said that they would "Double" my fee if I cancelled one of my appointments! The same person called again and said, that "whatever fee" I requested they would agree to it, that it was "MOST IMPORTANT" that these documents be signed! Another, wanted me to telephone them immediately, if one or both of my appointments fell through and that their borrower was "standing by"!

What I do not understand, is this: According to the NNA directory, there are 58 notaries within 1 mile of me! And, within Los Angeles and Orange Counties, there are literally hundreds (i.e.thousands) of notaries. Therefore, why wasn't these people able to find anyone yesterday?

You have been given a high compliment, Pamela!
If there are 58 SA's in your area, and say, 29 of them are still
in the biz, but the hiring parties want YOU over them, they are
offhandedly saying (IMO) that they are pleased with the quality of your work.
Pat yourself on the back!
Experience does matter, but I'll take quality over experience any day!
Good job!

Yesterday was EOM. They may have already called 10-20 SA's who were already booked and they were getting desperate. Hope you got some good fees from the ones that you actually closed, since you probably could have commanded whatever fee you wanted from the last minute callers.

Pam what I would have done is this. When the company calls and asks you to cancel another appointment I'd say I'm sorry I can't do that. Then I would offer to go later after my last if I could make it to the appointment by say 11pm and I would charge an extra fee for last minute after hours.

But when they called you back and said name your price; as long as the company has a good reputation on paying you are good to go.

SarahBeth, Re: What I Do Not Understand!

Hello SaraBeth!

When these people telephoned, I explained that I was already committed! Yet, it did not matter to most! They reminded me of car sales people!

When this happens again, I will be better prepared!

Thanks for the advice!

Pam

Re: SarahBeth, Re: What I Do Not Understand!

Pam that is the beauty of these boards. Sometimes we learn how to handle things we didn't anticipate before they happen to us which keeps us from being suckered. Sometimes we learn something through experience and can help others before they get suckered. I certainly have learned alot here and continue to daily.

Betsy! Re: What I Do Not Understand!

Betsy, Good Morning!

As stated before, I am still somewhat new and this was a first for me! Meaning that, I've had companies telephone before requesting "last minute signings", but not, back-to-back-to-back-to-back etc. . .! Simple Amazing!

And Yes! The two I had agreed to do the signings, did meet meet my fees (actually a bit more)! However, those which telephoned later in the afternoon Wow! Heck, I should have asked for a Eurpoean vacation instead ("smile"Wink!

Mistarella! Re: What I Do Not Understand!

Mistarella, Good Morning!

So far, so good with my signings! I am very thorough and want to do the best! I take my roles as both notary and signing agent seriously! If I have questions about a particular document or appointment, I ask. I do not try to "second guess" and "hope that everything turns out correct"!

At the end of the month, I know that lenders need to close these loans. Still, with all the notaries here in Los Angeles County (and Orange), it just stunned me, with all the telephone calls and offers!

I know that there have been complaints about the NNA overflowing the field with new signing agents. Yet, where were all these agents when the lenders needed them!

It's just hard to believe that nobody else wasn't available! If that is the case, business must really be booming for these companies (irrespective of what the media says)!

And I do Thank You!

Pam

Brenda! Re: What I Do Not Understand!

HI BRENDA!

It was a truly crazy afternoon! When and if this "onslaught" happens again, I will be better prepared! I was very satisfied with the fees agreed to, by the two companies for which I had initially accepted. These individuals had telephoned in the morning and everything was fine! It wasn't until the afternoon, that the phone began to literally rang off the hook!

Still, in my opinion, there is no reason for these lenders/loan officers to wait until the V-E-R-Y last minute! Why must these loans close at the last day of each month? Why not have them evenly spread-out across the calendar? Why aren't there deadlines for having everything completed in a timely manner, "before" calling the notary and/or setting the appointment?

Why are many Lenders/Loan officers etc. . . so G-R-E-E-D-Y? Why do they take in more customers than they can handle?

Of course these are rhetorical questions, but it just amazes me that, the mortgage/banking industry is not that organized!

A-N-D, THANK-YOU-EVER-SO-MUCH for Helping "Little Bit" and Sylvia!

Also, received the information, Great!

lol,

Pam
