Why offer $75 when you can pay $125?

Got a call at 6:05 pm for a signing tonight. I would have to drive 20 minutes back to my office to print docs and then at least 30 minutes to the borrowers. I ask what type of docs, and have to drag out of her that it's a refi. OK, about 100 pages x2.

me : How much do you pay?
her: $75
me: "I get $150 for those"
her: Can you do it for $125?

Why lowball me first? Has this turned into Let's Make a Deal?

I just don't get it.

I have the same problem with some of the companies that call and want you to do a signing at 6:00 PM when it is about 2:00 PM. I let them know what I charge and they want you to do it for less. I let know that I need to be compensated for the miles I drive and the price of gas. They sometimes agree to pay my price but I do not get the documents by email until about 1 and 1/2 hours before the signing, Not giving enough time to print 2 sets of documents and make the appointment on time. Then if there is a problem at the signing noone is present at the signing or title company to answer questions. I wonder if it is at all worth the trouble.
