Yeah, I did the search thing first
I just ordered a Garmin c320 GPS off Amazon.com; paid a wee bit over $300 for it. Seemed like a bargain. Does anyone have any really really nasty things to say about that model? I put it on the credit card so I can probably send it back if dissatisfied.
Not really sure why I bought it. I'm a clueless loser when it comes to gadgets; even my Swiss Army knife buffaloes me (I have on separate Christmasses received two of them. Each time, before everyone was through unwrapping presents, I managed to cut myself). My VCR is still flashing "12" "12" "12" "12" ad infinitum -- which really doesn't matter much, since it's hooked up wrong and I can't use it anyway. I discovered it was hooked up wrong when I finally bought a DVD player. Now I have two devices hooked up to the TV that I have no idea how to operate. I've never learned how to operate the camera in my cell phone, but even worse, I have somehow managed to turn the earpiece volume down to a whisper and can't figure out how I did it, much less how to correct it. And speaking of cameras, I've somehow put my new digital camera into some strange configuration that doesn't appear to be covered in the manual, in any offerings on the Internet, or the incredibly diverse techie knowledge bank of the 13-year-old next door. I still haven't been able to program in speed dial on my fancy phone set, my shredder is still sitting in the box because I am intimidated just looking at it, and there's a good chance I don't even have enough computer savvy to get this message off.
For all of you signing agents in Maine, keep an eye out; I suspect I may be coming your way soon on a GPS-assisted Austin closing.

LOL...
My mom lives in the same town as me and she comes over to my house every morning at 7:00 so that I can check the messages on her cellphone.

So much has the presence of a fax machine in my mother's life affected me, I once wrote a blog article called "A Dark Tale About My Mother, Me, and a Fax Machine."
I should have never given my mother a fax machine...and my 877 toll free number.

I am glad to know that there is someone as technology-challenged as I am. I did not even know how to turn on the TV until a year ago, as I did not know how to use the remote. Of course ,I do not know how to use the DVD & CD players and the stero, which are all connected to the TV somehow. It took me three months to figure out how to find and use the call log on my cell phone.

Does that light blink on the VCR before it burns out? We are at 8

I have the solution for ALL...
You need a son that just loves to "hook up gadgets". Mine has gotten me out of so many jams that I'm thinking of "renting him out" to the elderly people here in Maine that still have black & white t.v. and dial telephones, we could make a fortune assisting them. Plus, he reads all the directions and gives me a "guided" tour of using the gadgets.
Hugh, if you get up this far, to Maine, be sure you bring plenty of flash lights or extra batteries for navigating in the dark outside of your car. Everything past Portland closes up at 6:00 PM and there are no street lights and 90% of the residents here have no porch lights and no house numbers (most of the roads have no street signs also) Actually the GPS may be what everyone that visits Maine may need. Then they wouldn't have to worry with all those things that aren't here.

Hilarious and sooo true....
I considered myself computer savvy or at least I thought I was until my kids all moved out. When they were home they showed me everything and I "kept up with the times". Now that they've moved out, (and technology changes by day), I sometimes have a hard time keeping up....thank God they all have cell phones (which, by the way don't work in this area). I'm one of those mothers that they wish didn't have their number. But they are patient and still help me out.(laughing silently in the background) Even the one in Iraq helps me when we IM each other.(Like he doesn't have enough to do...right!)
So the moral of this story.....keep good relationships with the kids.....you will need their help. (After all, what goes around comes around....)

Re: I have the solution for ALL...
My sister lives in Phippsburg, and I have used GPS for years to get up there.
We always drive up there at night to avoid the terrific traffic. And if we want to to make it to her house in a timely manner, we have the use the GPS because it is black as pitch up there. There is no ambient city light once past Portland.
My brother and his wife, always get lost when driving up there at night. Last summer, they were two hours north of my sister's before they realized they were lost again.

Too funny! I'm glad to read that I am not the only one that needs help from their teenager! I say to my 16 year old every day...only two more years, and then I have to learn how to do this stuff by myself!
