no pay for your traveling
I traveled a total of 72 miles one way and 72 miles back home I had made arrangements with the borrow for 5pm the day before when the documents were emailed to me the first page said 6:30pm so I emailed the agency to question the time and I was told to stick with the timed agreed upon by the borrower and myself, so that is what I did but when I arrived with the documents at 4:55 I was told the borrower was in another state and it would be another hour and half to two hours before he would arrive, because of another job later that evening I was not able to stay that long therefore I had to leave but I felt I should be paid something for my traveling and for printing out of the documents since I followed everything the way I was supposed to but the agency became very rude and nasty on the phone and when I requested to speak to her boss she said her boss doesn't deal with issues like this she said I will call you back in 10 minutes and that was over a week ago and I still have not heard back from her I also emailed her as well but nothing. I have a copy of the email reply telling me to go with the agreeded time and a copy of the email where I had told her we had agreed on 5pm. Is there anything I can do about this does anyone know or has anyone had this to happen to them before

It's on you...
Man, that was like the longest sentence I've ever seen in a paragraph!
When you saw the time discrepancy, you should have reconfirmed with the BORROWER, who probably would have told you he'd be late that evening, at which point you could have had one of the appointments covered by someone else. Did you leave your number so he could call you if there was a change? So the BO ended up not getting to sign because you had to leave?
It sounds to me like you were the one who was ill-prepared. Especially considering the distance involved, you should have double-checked everything. I think you eat this one and gain some experience.

when you have a long distance like that you should always re-confirm....i think the trip is on you.......

You could have left the docs on the porch, so the next available notary would not have to print, and collected your print fee. I would also have arranged to find a replacement notary.
I booked two closings too close together myself last week and was 1 1/2 hours late to the second closing. It nearly cost me my client. I am lucky they are willing to still use me for closings. Ah, well - live and learn... Never make the same mistake twice - second chances are rare. (smile)

First, as already mentioned ....... one word ........ PARAGRAPHS .......
As to your question, it's up to you to keep track of distance and keep the client calling honest.
On my website, travel is clearly spelled out, including ZIP codes covered and travel fees explained.
Also, I use Microsoft Streets & Trips software, enter the BO's address, get a good map to and mileage to be traveled.
OR you can use http://www.mapquest.com/, enter your address and the BO's location, and get one way miles. Double it, of course, to get round trip.
Trust me, after this experience you'll always think about this when you need to, WHEN you're on the first phone call, so you can control your fees properly.
On this trip, it's ALL on you.

Re: no pay for your traveling.....I'm impressed Question
How did you create the drop box with the zips and prices? too cool!! I love how detailed your the travel fees w/zips...should never be a misunderstanding on fees that's for sure.
I received my first piece of junk mail today ;-) from NNS I'm sure I'll be taking my oath next week shortly after the loan signing class.
Thank you in advance

My two cents...
I'm torn on this. Do I think you MESSED UP... no not really. You've got your proof... you confirmed the time... you were told not to change it. You've got your Emails...
BUT... this situation all boils down to experience. The one thing you figure out is that the borrower is sitting at home probably getting calls from the LO... the TC... and you. They talk to quite a few people towards the end and they don't realize that all the people are not only in different offices but very likely different states as well. They ASSume that everyone is working closely together. If there is a change or discrepancy in regards to a signing, (time, location, # Borrowers) ALWAYS double check with the signer. The right hand very rarely keeps the left hand efficiently informed and you'll be left holding the bag asking 'Hey wait a second...?'

I agree with Angelina
With more experieince, you will learn to keep connected with the brw. It has also been my experience that there is a lack of communication (no matter what the hiring co.'s say) and I have learned to make that a priority, with TC, lenders and particularly the BRW's, who sometimes are in the dark more than we are. Take it with a grain of salt, learn from the experience and move forward.

Wow are you kidding!
First off never accept a signing 72 miles away from your printer unless you are working directly for the Loan Officer and he or she and you are in contact with the signer right up to the minute you leave with the docs in hand.
Secondly you mention an agency. Signing Agency? Why would you take an assignment away from another notary who is based in the signers area. Greedy? It's OK to say no. Forget the cost of gas, wear and tear on your car and printing, it's the TIME that is so precious. And you obviously know that because you are trying to collect a fee based solely on that intangible.
Forget it - chalk it up - move on
