Adoption/signing at Dr's office..question

Hi everyone,
I have been doing mostly loan signings for the past year but got a call to notorization form at Drs office a few minutes from home so just wondering if anyone has done this at an office. We adopted ourselves domestic and this is international so not sure how many forms this involves. I thought that was kind of cool and wondering if I should contact our agency to offer services to other adopting parents. I was only going to charge $10..sounds right?
Thanks!

I've done it. Take a few blank acks, you should be notarizing the Dr.s sig on the physical
form(s) that the couple will have. I charged what my state allows and a tip fee.

Have done a number of these at the doc's office. Forms vary depending upon the consulate of the country the child is coming from, but generally it's just a few medical forms the doc has to sign about the adoptive parents. Yes, even though it's his/her office, still need to see an ID.

I charge my normal travel fee of $25, plus notarizations, but you can charge whatever your state allows and you feel is appropriate for your time. Give them a receipt as costs relating to adoptions are often tax-deductible for the parents.

How much you charge is up to you (duh!), but I keep in mind how much good the adoptive parents are doing and all the other expenses they'll have. Some doctors waive fees associated with adoption paperwork.

The forms are not unusual; they have the same notarial block(s) that you've seen before, either a jurat or an ack.

Good luck!

Just make sure you have enough unexpired time

on your notary commission. I was contacted last fall to do one for my friend's daughter, but couldn't because existing commission expired in March and I believe it must have something like 3 years left on existing commission or consulate won't accept it. Not sure why, but that is the rule. In fact, after I had renewed my commission, but hadn't received my stamp, got a referral from another local notary and she confirmed that I couldn't do it because of the short time remaining on existing commission.

Re: Just make sure you have enough unexpired time

Thanks for the great information and Dorothy I checked I do have three years left on my comm. til 3/09. We adopted our son thru an agency who also does internationaal adoptions so we do know about how expensive and complicated adoptions can be so I didn't want to make anything hold it up or charge too much, thanks again

Re: Just make sure you have enough unexpired time

Alot of those international agencies can be very picky. I helped with one couple weeks back for an international adoption and found that having a loose ack or juret is not accepted. These companies sometimes do not know the specifics of the notary's state. They do provide an example of what they specifically want that can help, as long as the client informs you what they need.

Just did one last week, I charged $50 since it was 30-minutes away. Took less than 10 minutes.

Charge MORE

I am here in Virginia and I get at least 50 - 75 for these.
I do them often. A few doctors that know me call me at least twice a week.
