Could be that they forgot to send an important document and are trying to figure out if you notarized it or not. In other words... Did they forget to send it or did they lose it?
Or... they could have somebody contesting dates on an RTC. People try all kinds of weird stuff. Alter a 5 to look like a 6 and then try to cancel on the ninth saying they didn't get their three days. Your journal could be proof of a signing date.

Checking for Fraud?
Possibly the lender did an audit in the file and found inconsistancies...

Good question, Brooke. I would be concerned about just faxing over the info. According to govt code for CA, "upon written request of any member of the public, which request shall include the name of the parties, type of doc, month and year in which notarized, the notary shall supply a copy of the line item representing the requested transaction for a fee of not more than thirty cents per page". Unless it's requested by our employer. As IC's, I don't think SS's are considered our employer. Is it up to us to determine whether to send/fax/supply a copy when requested over the phone? Thoughts anyone?

You could honor their request only if they put it in writing on their letterhead, not if they just call.

Re: If anything, never accept requests over the phone....
Always tell them you need it in writing. Then you have proof should any questions arise. I would also check with your SOS regarding the request if you are not sure. JMHO.
