Can I have some opinions please?
I accepted a signing from a company I rarely work for. The signing was 1.5 hour drive from me. They had asked if I could do it at 2pm. I said I could not do it at 2pm as it would not work for me to drive that far and make the rest of my appointments, but I could do it at 11:30am. The schedular said that would be fine. The cofirmation came over and I called the Borrower to confirm, no answer no machine. Tryed a few hours later, no answer no machine. I did this up untill 8:30 with the same results. The next morning I called the Borrower again early, no answer no machine. I then called the SS for an alternate #, they had nothing. I tryed calling the Borrower all morning with the same outcome.
At this point it was 11:45. I called the SS and let the scheduler know that I had not been able to get ahold of the Borrower and I wasnt going to drive an hour and a half with no confirmation, she said thats fine she understood and she wouldnt either. So then 15 min later I get a call from the SS asking if I received the docs for my 2pm signing....AHHHHH!!! I said yes and that I had just talked with so and so and explained the situation with the time and all. At this point the gentleman on the phone began to lay into me saying this is a 2pm appointment you cant just change it!!! I gave him the schedulers name and told him to work it out with her this is not my fault. He was then mad that if I did say 11:30, why didnt I show up at 11:30 even without talking to the Borrower.
So that is my question, sorry so long, would you have shown up for an 11:30 signing an hour and a half away knowing that no one has contacted the Borrower, and you yourself were not able to confirm the apointment with Mr. Borrower?

I would have called whoever hired me & tell them that no contact/confirmation had taken place with the B's, despite numerous attempts. Then tell them that if they are willing to pay Full Fee for a very probable no-show, I am willing to make the drive. No Full Fee-No Go. Their call.

Hi, An hour 1/2 is a long way, however if I have informed the SS agency of the circumstances - that is not being able to contact the borrower - and they give their ok - I keep the appointment. The SS I work with will pay the full fee if the borrower is a no show and I make the trip.

Sometimes it is difficult to reach the borrower with the number(s) given. Many times I've had to call the LO or check the 1003 to get an alternate number. In your case, I believe you had no choice - how could you keep an 11:30 appointment that the borrower didn't know existed? Even if the SS paid a trip fee, it would not have been worth the 1 1/2 hr drive. Don't beat yourself up, sometimes things are out of our control.

Re: Can I have some opinions please? It bothers me that so
many notaries are so easy going. When someone gets rude with you you don't have to take, you are a business person, not a lackey. I wold politely tell a rude person that when they can speak to you politely to call back and then hang up on them. There is no excuse for rudeness in business. Remember this is business, its not personal. Besides there is no excuse for being rude anyway, these people totally lack breeding and class. I believe that you did everything possible and then some to get this loan signed and you went a lot further than I would have. If the SS can't get you adequate info to complete the signing its the fault of the the SS. I believe that you should be comfortable with your actions, acted in a very diligent manner.

Forget about it. Notaries are subjected to all kinds of weird psycho head games like the double talk you encountered... **He was then mad that if I did say 11:30, why didnt I show up at 11:30 even without talking to the Borrower. **
That was just to make you out to be a liar because he is bully-s-o-b.
Heck with them.

Hmm lets get another logical view on this as well
Tell him to kiss your grits! ok ok you can say it a little better, but you get my point. Lets also look at the logical and common sense of this scenerio. This is what you could have said/asked.... Why would I show up to an 11:30am appointment when I didnt even have the docs until 11:45? How can they sign when I dont have docs with me? Put him on the spot and throw the ball right on back to his court. I would have then ask Do you go out to dinner at 5:00 pm and expect to be done eating by 4:45pm? No thats right its called logic and common sense. I would never go to the appointment if I dont have the docs or a confirmation with the borrowers. Why waste your time, your equipment (including your car), and your gas only to show up to something that may not be there? Thats like going to a movie theater hoping that the movie you want to see is playing without checking the movie play list prior.
Tell the guy to call you when he gets logic and that he should be trained by his associate. What a Jack@$$ and im not talking about Jack falling down the hill either!

Thanks all for your imput......
There was alot more to the coversation than I wrote. More of the usual SS slaming the SA trying to put all the blame on me to make them look good. I stood my ground what little good it did me. They ended up finding an SA in the town where the Borrower lives. I went out of my way and met him half way to give him the docs, AND, I didnt charge them. I still got another call after that saying how I should have done this and that and that this is a really important client blah blah blah.
Anyway, it feels good to know all of you would have done the same.

Re: Thanks all for your imput...... Chain of command!
Appointment was Wed. 2:30 only one bwr contact number /w machine, left numerous messages, Tuesday contacted TC to tell them no brw confirmation, TC came up with borrowers cell phone. Contacted Borrower who is unavailable to sign on that date. Call TC to let them know that borrower is on vacation at Disney World, would be unable to sign on Wed. Here's were chain of command goes to hell. TC calls Wed. 4:15, "how did signing go" Excuse me! told you yesterday bwr was unable to sign. Young lady starts screaming I should have done everything possible to close the loan. LMAO as this point, politely told her I would have been more then glad to travel to Florida to sign the borrower, CLICK!

Oh come on.
That is just plain rediculous. You had been in consistant contact with the ss regarding the assignment. I would be tempted to just hang up then call back and speak with the first person and find out if they properly noted the circumstance in the file. In my opinion the ss needs to have a good program on thier pc's that has a specific note section and all employees must be trained to read the notes before calling. If she didn't note it then tell her that she needs to do so because your getting rude calls from other employees thinking they have some right to chew you out for the miscommunications within thier own companies.

Re: Oh come on.
So glad to hear the rest of you tell of the NO-communication within the "other" ranks of this business. I really got a good laugh as i sit here recalling the same stuff.
