Copy of Notary Stamp??
I am in the process of signing up with some of these signing services. They want me to fill out some forms and fax back with copies of DL, Notary Certificate, Bond, E&O and some of them are asking for a copy of my notary stamp and copy of auto insurance... is it ok to send them a copy of my notary stamp? I was thinking I could write VOID across it...please help, I have a stack of them to fill out and fax back! Thanks in advance!!

I would give them the stamp and then cross a line thru it. You can write void on it as well.

You should never "stamp" anything you are not notarizing. Send them a copy of your Notary Certifiate, and whatever else you are comfortable sending. Remember you are not actually 'working for' these people, you are an "independent contractor". Also keep in mind some of these "Signing Servises" are just theives and scam artists, so be care what you send.

FWIW, I give them a copy of my certificate ONLY; no D/L, no insurance and no stamps. If I had E/O I might give them that, WITHOUT numbers. ID theft is rampant, and any identifying stuff you give out could be used by someone. You don't know how these people safegard YOUR info. If they won't use me because they don't have the stuff, so be it, but most of the ones who tell me it's required still call me.

Same here, RickinVA. They get nothing that does not pertain to them. They have no need for a copy of my DL and Auto insurance. I only give a copy of my certificate, licence, etc. as necessary to show I can legally conduct my business.

I've filled out many vendor applications, too, where they required my stamp.
I just stamped the page, and then wrote VOID across the whole thing. They can't do anything with a stamp with VOID written across it.
That worked for me just fine! Hope this helps!

Michelle Foster, Re: Copy of Notary Stamp??
Michelle,
I too am new and am (still) submitting many, many applications! Although some companies request a copy of the seal, I ignore that request (but do send in a copy of the Commission etc. . .!
According to the California notary Public 2006 Handbook (page 9), " A NOTARY SHALL NOT USE THE OFFICIAL SEAL OR THE TITLE NOTARY PUBLIC FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN THE RENDERING OF NOTARIAL SERVICES". Government Service Code Section 8207.
Therefore, "No", it is illegal to do this in California (although I have been told by a loan signing company's notary/owner, that it was okay, I declined to do so.).
Have a Good Evening,
Pam
