Does anyone have a backup Notary??
I was wondering if anyone has a back up notary or someone that you give signings to when you are too busy? I have been doing this for over 2 years now and I have gotten to the point that I only want to do 2 closings a day. This is really part time for me becuase I am a full time mom. Lately I have had to turn down signings becuase I was really overworking myself. I was trying to be supermom, supernotary & superwife :> and I got sick :<
I have been asked several times by signing companies if I can refer someone else or if I can get someone to do it for me. Does anyone else do this? I actually know a couple of notaries in my area but do not know if they are experienced enough or reliable. I would really like to hear any comments or ideas. Thank you for your time.

I will occasionally pass one to a friend of mine that is a notary as well, if it's okay with the person on the other end. I'm trying to keep building my business so if your ever going to turn a job down in Los Angeles or Orange county let me know. My contact info should be listed on my profile or email me at [e-mail address] for it. Thanks! Have a great day!

I am assuming by your sign on name that you are in San Diego. I too am in San Diego and do notary signing on the side. I have a full time job during the day and been doing the signings for over 4 years now. If you are looking for a reliable person that you would like to send your signings to, I can be her! I am really only able to do them in the East County. I am avaible in the evenings during the week and anytime on the weekends. does this work for you? Let me know and we can go from there

I am in San Diego - southbay. Thank you for all of your great comments and ideas. I would definately like to work with someone who has experience in the Southbay. Last week I truned down 5 signings because of my crazy schedule (picking up kids, ballet, softball, signings - I almost live in the car) ONce in a while I get calls for Temecula & Poway and I do wish to pass those on as well. I added my link if there is someone in the southbay that would like to email me directly. THANKS AGAIN

Anyone that is successful should have one, or two....IMO
If you want to be successful in this business, I think it would be a huge downside to not network with your fellow notaries in the area.
This way if a company you do a lot of business for needs someone, and you are booked, you can refer them to someone competent. Most clients appreciate you taking the time to refer them to someone who you can vouch for.

I totally agree with Shane. I have a couple of other notaries I network with. And the companies I do business with do use them when I'm booked up. It's been a win-win situation. I highly recommend it.

Yes I have a couple back up notaries. If I get a call to do a signing, and am unable to fulfill the request, I send one of two people out. I get paid $50.00 per referral, payable by my associate.

Hi SD Girl,
I network with a few notaries in San Diego, especially since I started in July. We also will occassionally refer work to each other if the other can't do it. If you want more info, email me. What part of San Diego are you in?

I would love to have someone to refer signings to if I can't do it. I had to turn down two a week ago due to other obligations and wish I had someone to refer them to. On the other hand I am trying to get more business since I have more free time now since my kids are in high school and I can work during the day or night. I would love to be able to network with you. Feel free to email me. I am in the North county and also work So. Orange and So. Riverside counties.

I work a regular full-time job and only perform signings during the evening and weekends. My next door neighbor is a stay-at-home Mom. When one of my clients calls for a daytime signing, I accept the signing and pass it along to her. Works out great for both of us because I have already paid for all the advertising and have my client base built up pretty nicely, rather than turning down assignments, I take them, pass them along, and keep a small cut for myself.
She is happy about it because I do not work like a regular SS. She prints the docs, collects the signatures, and gives the package to me. Once I look over everything and it meets my satisfaction, I write her a check and she gets paid that night.

Yes, I have a business partner. We split signings. Although my schedule can be flexible, I sign mostly evenings and weekends. Since she is a Flight Attendant and fly's most weekends, she is available throughout the weekday. If a company calls me and I know that her availability is better, I will make sure they know SHE will be at the appointment. I never take a job first then send her. It's aways in the confirmation, which person will be performing the signing. Although we consider eachother business partners, we still act separately. She is paid for the appointments she does and I for mine.

I network with 4 other notaries in my state and do refer when I'm already booked or otherwise unavailable. I know that they are competent & they do reciprocate. I've met with a few title companies & have mentioned who I network with and they all are held in high regard by those I work with.
There are a few other notaries in state that I will refer to when my usual group is exhausted, although they don't reciprocate back to me. I refer to them because they are, based on personal knowledge, competent and qualified.
The companies I work with do appreciate the saving of time that I provide by referrals. They don't have to wade through the newbies & take a chance on if the notary actually knows what they're doing -- believe me, there are plenty who don't.
Although I'm referring to "the competition", I'd be losing the business anyway if I'm unavailable, so by saving the company time in finding someone who is available, I'm keeping myself at the top of their list.
