Thanks for the link Rhonda , can you tell me how this wireless thing works. Do I have to have a wireless service to use it? What equipment besides maybe a laptop? Anyone care to offer this advice? Thanks

Re: Free WiFi Spots List, Hi Della, it depends

If you have a fairly recent laptop you may have two options. The first option is that wireless is already built in (I have an HP Pavilion) where you would have a switch to turn it on or off. The other one is to use a wireless adaptor PCMCIA card (I have an older Sony Vaio with this). There are different cards and at different price points. I've used a lynksys SRS system for a couple of years and have been real happy but I have also heard god things about the Belkin stuff, they seem to range from around $45 and up to about $115. Check www.linksys.com, or www.belkin.com and then do a search through one of the comparison systems like Buy.com to get a good price. Most of the well known ones seem to be pretty much the same. Smith micro has a little keychain fob type of thing that indicates when you are the presence of a WiFi hot spot and you can use any open system including private ones which I always recommend that if you set up a wireless system in the home you encrypt it.
