Had my first 1st & 2nd whew! Need advice.

Lots of work on that one. Got through it though. When I had agreed to a single initially,
They bumped it up when the docs came to them, I don't think the company knew either. I am still going to invoice for more. They sent one confirmation for $85 The next one came in for $110. On their site it states $110. I think $130 is more like it. I think I should invoice them for at least this amount. Am I being fair? I have no idea.
Need advice from the all-knowing board members please.

It was over 250 pages without the borrowers copies. Didn't think I would ever get it printed.

~Thanks, Sherri in Arkansas

You need to work out the fees BEFORE you do the job. Chalk this one up to experience. IMO, you got screwed.

Unfortunately that second confirmation came in when the docs came threw. I didn't know what I was in for. The borrowers were very nice, it was only 10 miles from home, but still it was not up front when they hired me to do the signing and i never agreed to the second price.

For some 500 pages and two loans, I would have charged $175 since it was only 10 miles from your home.

Betsy is right on for what my fee would have been for the same package...

Sherri, did you try to contact the SS when the second confirmation came through? If it was during business hours and you didn't call them you pretty much agreed to the new fee by default.

I would definitely send an invoice for what you think the signing was worth, but you should really follow it up with a phone call. $110 for 2 loans with edocs is highway robbery (your edoc fee alone should have been $50) and you should have never gone out to the signing before you cleared up the fee issue. If that meant the signing couldn't get done that night, so be it.

In the future, you should never begin printing docs until 1. you've contacted the borrower to make sure the signing is on, and 2. you and the company that hired you are on the same page for your fee. You can't run a successful business if you screw yourself over in the name of "customer service".

This company knew exactly what they were doing and how ridiculously low their fee was. Hopefully you won't have to just eat it, but you should be prepared to accept it as a lesson learned.

Re: Many SSs are unaware of piggybacks until docs come

I have run into this situation several times. When I find out its two loans I either email or call to confirm an increased fee. If it's by phone I insist on something by email confirming the increased fee before I will go to the apptmt. If they get mad, it means they are definitely trying to pull something. I usually charge 1/2 again of my local fee for the 2nd loan since the first loan fee covers any additional travel. I have been burned with charging one edoc fee on these so have started charging for two so as the other person stated, $50 edoc fee.
