Maybe I missed something

I have been busy this week but always try to check in with NR to see what's going on. What I do see that really IRKS me is after the fiasco with KH-MA and BS_TX, I see KH trying to rule the forum and I have ZERO respect and give ZERO credibility in anything he/she says. I vote to have KH banned from the forum for not following the rules that NR "Harry" had us all agree upon and for his/her unprofessionalizm over the past year. I'm approaching my renewal date for NR and I'm having a hard time deciding due to the lack of policing of the ethics of this forum. I'm also a Realtor and have been instilled with the strict code of ethics we swear to but I see the notary world is lacking in this area (and you know who you are). I'm not in a click here nor do I have any email buds here but I do look to NR as my sounding board, for professional opinions and a few laughs. JMPO!

If you ignore it..they will go away....

although I broke my own rule last week by responding to an argumentative/personal posting. But, I wanted to know what all the arguing was about since I don't read every single thread. I do understand what many are complaining about where sockpuppets are concerned. Now that I know what to look for...multiple post's by the same person of many names is easy to spot.

If you get quality signings from your NotaryRotary subscription, why cancel? I think you'd be hurting your own business. It's a shame Harry can't stop the personal crapola...but I doubt he has the time to read every single post...further, I don't want him to cause he might need to raise our membership fee againSmile

Re: If you ignore it..they will go away....

not true, ignoring only made it worse for everyone last year. What had and has been done is trying to show the the errors of one's ways. I believe I have found nothing offensive in KH's posts since our last 'on board discussion.'
The posts of late have shown a significant improvement. I'm proud of the way the content has been toned down and the self advertising has ceased. It helps him to fit in a little better and with time, I hope more people start to forget about last year if he stays on track....jmho.

It certainly would help get some integrity and professionalism back to this place.

Also, I agree with the Michigan poster whom had the idea that the few newbies posting to everything, a lot of it incorrect or useless should not treat this forum as a chat board.
That being said, I'm off to look for a Friday OT...Smile

I'm an ole-timer and post when I feel I have something..

useful-interesting-funny to input. Every state has its own laws thereby much of what is stated doesn't apply to me. I didn't read any of the "personal" posts last year. It's why I kept complaining about trying to weed thru all the threads.

But, the other day my curiosity got the best of me and I broke my own rule of "staying out of it." I agree with you about certain folks becoming more professional of late. I take that as a good sign. But, this forum is more chat room than professional forum. It's why we need a NATIONAL SIGNING AGENT ASSOCIATION. Every state could have it's own section for pertinent info for each of our area's. JMHO, of courseSmile

Charm, meant to tell you.....

that your OT the other day about the Living Will was very funny. It was coincidental for me because a life long friend is currently brain dead but being kept alive because his mentally-emotionally disturbed brother won't let them turn the machines off. My friend would not approve but he didn't put anything in writing before going into surgery. He honestly thought that he would be just fine.

I thought about mailing your Living Will to the brother but realized that it would go right over his head. Further proof to never leave your life in the hands of another. Not to sound like Shirley McClain...but maybe my friend is sending me a message via Charm's good sense of humor?

On the serious side, Doctor's don't tell you it's time to pull the plug because they want to go play golf. They tell you because they are Doctor's and know death when they see it.

It's sad but NR is a chat room not a professional forum. Do

you think that a web site for professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers, realtors, etc. would have all the O/T jokes, daily good morning greetings, requests to some individual to email me or I sent you an email and instead of asking the lender I'll just post here and so on. My point is the whole tone of NR is like a college BS session with lots of chaff and very little wheat.

Re: All very good points but what's a SA to do?

freedom of choice, there are other forums if this one isn't up to your liking. GMN is one of them. It's not unprofessional to say good morning or have discussions on something other than my embosser. This just happens to attract that crowd. If someone wants to find an answer related to a specific notarial procedure/question, there's always the search button. The OT in the subject line means pass it up, it's not notary related.

Read, don't read. Participate, don't participate. Stay, move on.

If someone's got a problem with the board or poster, then tell Harry offline. Don't police the board yourself because those posts can be just as annoying.

Actually I agree but I try to respect all points of view...

What I see in the future is this forum and another one that is strictly for business. Hopefully. This is an excellent place to network (chat) and at least it's got all of us talking about important issues. It's also filled with valuable information for those who search for it. JMHO, of courseSmile

Be careful what you ask for!!!

I agree that this board can get looking a little like a chatroom. When I am home waiting for docs or going to and from jobs... sometimes I will check the board a few times a day. And depending on my mood... some days I'll post more than others!

But the GOOD THING ABOUT IT IS THAT PEOPLE DO CHECK IT! When there are issues, they get dealt with... and nine times out of ten it is very quickly. There are other VERY PROFESSIONAL forums out there but to tell you the truth... the answers don't come near as fast as they do on this board.... On this board, when you post a serious question... yeah ok you might get a few answers that are off point or not state specific but if you wait twenty minutes... you'll get the answer you were looking for! On other sites you can wait up to 24 hours for a professional opinion. Sometimes you won't have 24 hours.

This board is what it is... and just maybe... some of the fun and drama we have IS what keeps people coming back... and people on the board is what gets those questions answered quickly! I don't know about you, but in college, I enjoyed my fast paced American Government class taught by an outspoken lobbyist WAY MORE than my Calculus class!

Enjoy it for what it is! Life is too short to be so legalistic!

OT is written on the heading so you'll know it's...

"off topic". It helps alot when searching strictly for biz related info. Maybe what we need is a legend of all the acronyms. I think an important part of networking is getting to know folks. Kind of like doing biz on the golf course, so to speak. JMO (Just my opinion)

Re: That only works if OT is in the heading

See breakfast posts above. It would also be helpful if OTs were not included in searches. And lists of acronyms have been posted before and are available by using the search button.

But my original point is, we shouldn't tell newbies they can't post as if Notary Rotary is a chat room when so many of us use it that way ourselves. We are teaching the newbies how to behave on Notary Rotary with our own behavior.

I haven't read the board in a day or two but...

I have noticed the change between now and a few months ago. Personally I enjoy hearing what everyone is up to so yes, I gotta agree it's more chat than business. I also agree that if you need an answer in a hurry this is the place to post. Catch 22 for sure! I lost my brother yesterday, Charms "Friday post" brought a smile to my face, thank you Charm. We never know what the other posters are going through nor do we sometimes read between the lines. Charm said it best, one can always decide to pass that post by. I think we sometimes take life a bit to seriously and forget our compassion. Take time to stop and smell the roses, NR is a sanctuary for many and we each take from it what we need. Everyone have a glorious and safe weekend.

I look at NR as the office water cooler

I think this board fulfills a need that we don't get to have as self employed signing agents. In a sense, we're each other's co-workers.

Just as at the office you sometimes talk about work related stuff with co-workers, sometimes complain about it, and sometimes talk about stuff completely unrelated to work, the same thing happens here.

This board would be excrutiatingly boring if all we did was talk about notary and signing procedures. A lot of people (myself included) wouldn't be here and there would be a lot less useful information in here.

I like Cali's way of looking at things. I too would find this board dull if the only conversation revolved around notary topics. I look forward to many of the other posters' comments on a variety of topics.

Re: OT is written on the heading so you'll know it's...

I passed by this message last night and figured I would ignore it entirely. I'm not sure what I did wrong this time around. I was very pleased to see that everyone was playing nice together here. I posted on the board four times, and I believe two were in response to messages directed towards me.

I'm not sure if it is the long name of "Korey Humphreys" that stands out to you or not. I kind of view it as the off topic post Charm left about how the mind can't process the word "of". Maybe my full name attracts the attention of you. I'm really not sure, but the reality is I didn't post a lot. I posted a couple messages when I got home and settled last night.

I enjoy reading this board, I really do! I like learning new things about what other notaries can do. I simply enjoy reading new things and/or experiences.

If I am wrong when I post I do not find it offensive for one to correct me. I don't mind minor debates. My favorite color is blue and I enjoy spending time with family and my close friends (god I feel like I'm suppose to write in that direction Smile )

But seriously though, the only thing I can say MB_AZ is that if you don't like my messages, or feel that you should quit your day job because I have posted with sockpuppets a year ago, then by all means ignore me and never assist me when and if I ask for it. I plan on being here for a while so that I may pass on what I've learned to newbies in the future (of course after I learn Smile ).

Thank you.

Re: OT is ..... Korey

Well, Junior..."what Charm said."

Sometimes people log in every three or four days or so and maybe they see a big Smackdown with blood and gore everywhere, and, by that time things may be over... and the problem might have righted itself, but when that person starts catching up, it's just like real time.

An excellent visual!! You would think that those that are reading everything trying to catch up would post their thoughts on the original thread. But then again, I should practice what I preach for I have done the same thing.

I understand your frustration. Since we were not a part why Harry chooses to do what he does, it's hard to say why he has allowed KH to come back. It does seem, however, like Charm said, he has cooled off - KH that is.

I can't help but wonder if the agreement to have him return was maybe an email with words such as: my Attorney friends, sue, slander, etc. We will never know?!?!?

Try not to let it get to you. There is so many better things about this site that for me it overrides the bad.

something different to offer. I keep very busy and dont have a lot of time to participate, but when I have a few minutes to unwind and read/contribute I enjoy the heck out of it. Its funny how you start to view people, you dont even know what they look like, as your friends and co-workers. Am I right about that????? Have a great day and a wonderful weekend folks!

It had absouletly nothing to do with that. I wouldn't dream of suing Notrot / Harry. I think what Harry provides to us is wonderful..... and an excellent resource for notaries public.

Maybe it's because when I was gone, things were still SOMEWHAT out of hand. I didn't dare post until things were cleared about me. My profile has always been active, even though I did not post.

I learned my lesson ladies and gents....... I will not be posting with sockpuppets.

Alright... tis 11:50 AM and I gotta get to work for 12:30. Take care.

But as a paying member to this board, I think we all should have a say if somesone should be banned from the board for being so disruptive for so long. As for this person suddenly changing into a "reasonable person"....I don't think so. If it looks like a fish, smells like a fish, it MUST BE A FISH!
