OT: for Floridians and seafood...

please PAW or Becca or someone direct me to a great online seafood company
recommendation, I need blue crab claws, the big ones that you crack with a sledgehammer, and oysters, and I've never done my own raw oysters. You just thaw, shuck and eat? I guess to get anything this far inland, I have to have it shipped...TIA

I don't eat the local seafood. I know what they swim in! Smile (j/k)

I really don't know of any online places for Florida seafood. I get crabs from Maryland and lobsters from Maine. Shrimp is about the only local seafood that I eat here. (My in-laws love the catfish at a local restaurant.)

For what it's worth... I'm not a Floridian but I am a seafood lover. I have ordered from the Chesapeake Crab Company before (not for Blue Crab Claws... I had Stone Crab Claws) but we did order a bunch of whole Blue Crab for a party and it was great. I have also ordered Dungeness crab and it was great... but expensive. I can get excellent quality King Crab legs and Dungeness at Costco at a great price so I don't order it from Chesapeake anymore. Chesapeake, in my opinion is expensive but the food was fresh and tasted great.

If you do order from them... maybe call and ask about the size of the claws because if I remember correctly... we didn't need a sledgehammer for the Blue that we had.

I haven't ordered oysters from anywhere... can't help you there!

I think they have a website... I ordered over the phone... I'll look it up.

I love seafood. The only thing I haven't liked so far is raw oysters. I love em fried, smoked, baked, but just not raw.

Same here... raw oysters are not for me. I love all kinds of seafood cooked and raw... but not oysters.

Did you ever read the poem when you were little...

from Alice in Wonderland... "The Walrus and the Carpenter"...

It was so sad... I remember thinking that I'd never eat any seafood! Not like that lasted very long. At least they didn't have any poems about cows or chickens or I'd have starved. Smile

I could eat seafood every night of the week and not get tired of it. I remember not eating peanut butter for a long time because some tv show put it on a slide under a microscope and they showed microscopic bugs on it. Now if you hand me a spoon of peanut butter I'll gobble it up.

Do not thaw and eat raw oysters and expect the same flavor that you get with fresh raw oyters. I only use frozen for gumbo's.

If there is a "Shells" in the area, I recommend it. The one I would visit frequently when I was in Sarasota FL for a project was wonderful!!!! Great variety and fantastic prices!!! Also, you can check the web for coupons and print them out before you go. Saves $$$ and gives you an idea of what is around.
