Opinions on extra docs added to overnight docs
I have a confirmation for overnight docs. It reads that there may be some faxed docs and not to leave without them. When I got the email it turned out to be 24 pages which turned into 48 with borrower copy included. Would any of you ask for extra to cover the edocs? Or is asking for extra out of line? Please keep in mind I am traveling one way over 70 miles. This is a really good company and I don't want to damage the good relationship we have, but my gut says ask for more. What do you all think?

With a slight grimace, I would hold my tongue at 24 pages. Good relationships are few and far between. Even when it turns into 48 page. At a cost of 10 cents per page you would only have a loss of $4.80. Printing is easy for me. It's that time factor of the fax backs that makes me start sniffling, snorting, growling and saying mean words.

True. There are considerable fax backs also. But the relationship is more what I am worried about. I just wish I knew up front just how many "Some faxed paperwork" really meant. I also gave them a huge break on the distance, because I like them so much. I guess that is why I bugged out about the paperwork. Hope they don't hold it against me!:-)

I have taken a pretty hard line about not doing all those ridiculous fax backs - just the fact of faxing back requires that you make a separate trip back out to drop the package. Also you have to remember that...
YOUR MUST FAX THIS BACK IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SINGING OR YOU FEE WILL NOT BE PAYED!!!!!
(Typos intentional.)

Oh yes sir I will take another hour and a half immediately after the signing is complete to go home, rip apart the package, put together the fax, fax it, put package back together and then get it in the envelope and drive to drop. By the time I'm done I will have made 2 bucks an hour. Wrong answer.

the fact that they say the documents must be faxed back immediately makes me think that in their mind this really is immediate and we are not to accept another signing after the one for them!

standard fee for edocs and faxes is 25.00. That includes borrowers copies. If going to charge more charge it on the 70 miles not the docs

I get you on the edoc fee, but 25 for how many fax backs? n/m

You do mean $25 for edocs and another $25 for faxing and another $20 for milage back to ship. Now for me I live real close to a fedex drop box but many are in rural areas and it is more than appropriate to pay the fees mentioned.

Do all of you ask abut these particulars when you get the
all? I used to always ask but figured I knew which companies expect what, now I am finding out the change their policies from time to time and have different rules depending on who the lender is. Man, I hate when there are more than a couple faxbacks, it totally messes up my day. After the fact, I have had no luck getting companies to agree to pay more unless it is that they thought ti was 1 loan and it was 2, or the signing locations changes and is farther, but becaue of fax backs and larger than usual e-doc packages, they wont budge. What has been the experience of you other fellow notaries?????

The litmus test
The only way to test if there exist a good two way relationship with a company is put them to the value test. If there is a policy change that I was not aware of then I'll suck it up for this one assignment, but I certainly am not going to for the next one. If a company value my times/services and would like to keep a good business relationship then they'd better compensate me for the extra work. Otherwise, I'm not going to let my business get taking advantage of just b/c I want to keep that relationship with them.

Re: My standard fee for edocs is...Sanders SS
Questions I ask:
1. Refi, 1st, heloc, Piggy-back etc 2. Page count - My EDOC is good for up to 125 pages on the package (**grins** Countrywide) 3. POA signing? 4. Faxbacks 5. Canx policy/print fee 6. Location for milage
Not sure if this helps or not, but it works for me and I modify as needed.

Danny, it does help. If over 125 pgs, how do you chg?Do you
charge more for POA? How about BRW signing as Trustee? How do you chg for fax backs, by the page? I am really tired of these last minute "surprises"! Thanks, O/c in CA

Re: Overnight package rules I didn't think to ask about.
I have never charged for fax backs. Perhaps that is something I should think about. I have done several for this company but edocs only. I have never done the overnight thing. Their fax backs require the standard title docs and all other notarized docs so it could be over 12 pages. All I was asking this company was for $10 more to cover the 48 pages. I gave a break on the distance. It seems to me that more companies are doing the overnight docs and acting like there is no work involved with the closing or anything else. There still is the same amount of responsibility with overnight as edocs. We are expected to make sure the necessary docs are there or call. Do all the fax backs. Show up on time. Fax back immediately....and so on. What am I missing in asking for a tiny bit more to cover the paperwork?

well, you can always tell them you will fax back provided there is someone in the office at the time you go to send the faxes. Did I mention I generally do most of that in the late hours of the night?

Re: Danny, it does help. If over 125 pgs, how do you chg?Do you
A wise person once told me that you have to put your stake in the ground somewhere and that occasionally you have to move that stake around for the best postion.
meaning, you need to research and decide what is fair for faxbacks, fee for overages, etc...and sometimes trial and error.
