Payments
I keep reading about people getting burned with non payment issues. Myself included. We accept a signing , given instructions on being prompt and making sure we dot our i's and cross the t's and sending the packet back and if we don't we wont' be paid, etc. We live up to our end but too many companies just don't give a dam and stiff people for their hard work. I am considering asking for payment in advance if the doc's are to be overnighted. I know this can seriously cut down on some business but then again why go out and do the work and than not get paid for it. Most companies are out of state and it is not like you can show up at their offices and turn them upside down and shake the money out of them. What do you think.

Wow from your post it sounds like you've had a big number of non pays. This so? What type of companies are you working with? How are these companies rated when you search them?

Re: Payments-My opinion for whatever it is worth...
I think it may take one a few years to become established with a list of companies that trust you and you trust them for payment. I have been able to collect on all outstanding invoices but this last one I have mentioned recently did take 9 months. This past snowy weekend I thought let me attempt one more time, bam (to quote Emeril) title company-the one I sent the docs to, did send a check within days. It would be great to receive payment with the package but I don't think that is going to happen at least not with most companies. I do keep a detailed file on each work order. I make a copy of where the file came from, of course all detailed info on work order requester and where the file is going. Make notes on the details of the signers that stood out in my mind etc., etc., etc. Good Luck, tough business from that aspect....

Someone recently mentioned using Paypal
and having the ss pay up front. I think it's a good idea to use with the deadbeat ss's like SOX and The Document Guardian, etc. I wouldn't do that to the more reputable companies though. I've actually been meaning to open an account but haven't gotten around to it.

If they won't pay after the signing, they certainly won't
pay before the signing. And reputable companies want to make sure the work is completed before they cut the check. If you are fortunate enough to get repeat work from TC's and lenders, you can request to be listed on line 1101 on the HUD. The TC's I work with regularly have me listed on the HUD: meaning I get paid when the loan funds.

Agree with you Mistarella.
I only have two past dues and they are both people that I never worked for before. Not ss either! Most of my TC's list my fee right on the HUD also. You sure get paid the way you should get paid - fast! In the future if a new company calls I am going to at least mention Paypal, just to see what thay say.

Non paying clients- call Ray at Corporate Financial Investigations LLC. He's collected money for me promptly and was a pleasure to work with. You don't pay anything if he can't collect, but I haven't heard of that happening as yet. Here the website: http://cfi-corp.com/index.html I decided to stop complaining and getting made about this kind of stuff and just turn the accounts over to Ray. I think if we all used collection agencies routinely, places would mess with notaries less.

For Small Business Collections
Just in case you only have a few past dues. Give Mary Lanphier @ Associated Specialists 5506 Avenue K #4-Bessemer, AL 35020 Phn 877/832-4156 office 205/424-6398 fax 205/425-1390.
Mary is very nice to work with and will collect small business past dues. It's better to get some of your money, then none of it. I think if more of us do this it will send a message to non-payers #1 This is in fact a business #2 Yes we do intend to collect our fees!

A lot of people have mentioned Paypal
but I don't think I've ever seen a single post where somebody actually got paid in advance via paypal. It's a nice theory, but totally unrealistic for this industry.
