Signing Agent

Hello Everyone,

I am a new member of notary rotary. I would like to know what to do to get started as a Loan signing agent. I live in North Carolina. My instructor of the notary class stated that as a signing agent we have to be careful because it is alot of violations to how the fees should be stated. Notaries are only paid $5.00. So how can I get around this by being a signing agent to make sure I follow my state guidelines for being a notary with the fees.

Thanks,
Keedra

I have it on good report that a Texas Signing Agent contacted the Tx SoS and asked them about this situation. Their response was to keep a record of the notary fees for each job. If you were paid $100 and you had ten notarizations at $6, for $60. Two at $7, for $14. That means you had $74 in notary fees and $26 in signing agent fees. $74 + $26 = $100.

If that makes sense, perhaps you can approach your own SoS (or commissioning office) to ask this question and use the Texas model as an example.

As far as getting started, why don't you read the entire thread beginning with msg #33325? You will glean a lot of information to help you get started in that thread.
