I normally dont post anon, but I dont want to post any names for obvious reasons ;-))
Got a call from a TC about a signing from Dec 2005, the signature page to the mortgage got lost after recording. Lender upset, TC in a panic. Asked if I would run back out ang get new signatures, offered right off the bat to pay full price as "emergency." Said "sure" but when I realized it had originally come thru a SS, let them know that it would be politically correct to run this thru them as well. They said OK, we'll take care of that later, the priority right now is just getting it signed.
(note - I work with very few SS any more, I really like the people at this one though - or did anyway. I've done many successful signings for them over the past year, $50 w/ overnight docs, but real close to my office)
Borrowers had to sign that night, couldnt do it next day before shipping cutoff. OK, I juggled my other closings. Of course they also couldnt sign after my other one in their area, by the time they could sign I was 25 miles away, where I had lined up two signings in a row. Pushed my last closing back, drove all the way there, then all the way back to go to the last one. TC happy.
The next morning I spoke with the SS, letting them know about the trip. They hadnt even been contacted yet. Let them know that the "full price" offer was not solicited by me, but the TC's offer as they felt it was their responsibility. Was half-way expecting someone to say "Thanks for being so honest!" (You know what they say about "expectations..."
SS calls back, "it was only one piece of paper, what do you think would be a fair price." Let's see, I already agreed to a full price, drove an extra 50 miles, took an extra 90 minutes out of my day...so...how about the full price? Nope, not the right answer. (Remember, only $50 anyway)
Owner of SS left a voice mail on my phone, asking why I would want to do anything that would affect doing future business with them, over a "miscommunication."
Is it me? Am I being unreasonable? The TC was going to send me the check for the SS's whole fee. I could have kept my mouth shut, except for that darned "ethics" gene. I even had my own signing service at one time, I would have been very grateful if one of my notaries had done what I did, not haggled with them over how much they should get. Tried to show the SS a little respect, now they are treating me like I did something wrong.
This reminds me *again* why I dont work with many SS's, and why so many of them have developed the reputations they have. Lesson learned, thanks for letting me vent.

I would call the TC back and tell them that since the SS isn't willing to compensate you fairly for the offer of full fee that was offered by the TC, yoiu'd like to bill them directly instead of going through the SS. If they agree to that, call the SS and tell them that they're now not getting anything from the TC, that it's all going to you instead.

My client is whoever calls me. I do not solicit a t.c. or m.c. if I work with them through a s.s. But if they call me directly on their own, then that's their decision. Someone calls me for a job, I don't say "who are you again, where did you get my name, don't you usually use so and so s.s., etc." I say tell me where, tell when, I'll be there.
I once did the same thing as you, and received the same ungrateful response. Never again.
