Compared to all the other OT shared on this board ?! ...

... this is the perfect place to solicit assistance from fellow NR members. Why the heck not?

The difference is, is that this OT is not a joke or a recipe or a post about how stupid someone is with a zillion unnecessary obscenities or a spell-check-police reply or a slam or ..... and we wonder why members feel they must use Anon.

Good luck Anon in your efforts!

"solicit" -- to approach with a request or plea --

-- from the primary Merriam-Webster definition of "solicit."

You may disagree with the message, but the usage is correct.

In reality Kelly...

I believe Charm was correct in stating that using the word "Solicit" is grounds to "rest her case". Off-Topic humor is acceptable and welcomed in this forum, whereas pleas for funding personal causes are not. We all will donate and support whatever cause we deem fit, and do not apreciate the "solicitations" even if we believe in said cause. I also believe that you have not assisted the verdict as to your intelligence. The desperation to substantiate your vindictive post, is in fact quite detrimental. You may however, be able to "solicit" Flamac to join you in your "Humiliated and Bitter" club.

Rick, I know what solicit means, I guess it went over everyone's heads. This is not a place to advertise or (imo) solicit money (donations). It's never gone over well in the past. Obviously some (not you) don't pay attention and look to swipe whenever they can.

If not here, then where? This post is available for thousands to see, why would this not be the place for it. I understand that it has nothing to do with signings or anything all with notary work, but I am also a member of this website and I know that many people feel differently than you do. Although I do appreciate your input, my opinion differs from yours. Why is it okay at times for cursing and quickly putting others down but not okay when it comes to helping those who can't help themselves. If you have decided you would have nothing to do with it, that is fine, but please step aside and let those who want to help.

Thank You!

I believe the simple reason is

subject matter. One could consume a tremendous amount of space debating such subjects as charity/causes and religion. For instance:

By embracing fetal tissue research and destructive embryo research, the March of Dimes has violated the principle that made it a great organization: its basic commitment to assist the small, weak, and defenseless. Its unfortunate that this great organization would treat the most vulnerable members of the human community, the unborn, as nothing more than disposable instruments to be used for someone else’s benefit.

the March of Dimes has a wonderful reputation for helping those in need and it's non-profit. They have helped millions of children for decades. What a shame that such an innocent request was so needlessly attacked. Further proof that there are good people...and then there are bad people. Hope all the good one's have a busy, pleasant and productive daySmile

I see that you're a member of the SR. Since I'm a charter member of the SR and a personal friend of Kathy Poston, I know that you would never say such a rotten thing on that board. That's why it's a great place to have a membership with - zero tolerance for that attitude, no bashers, no lurkers, friendly and helpful, always. Isn't that why you joined the SR in the first place?

Guess you have to come here to talk like that calling someone you don't know and have never met, stupid.

By the way you haven't met me either.

I am tired of always reading this crazy stuff posted by people who don't know there hind end from a hole in the ground and then have the nerve to say they are jumped on?

You on the other hand have done your jumping on people around here also, just because you put a "lol" doesn't mean your really laughing or not being serious. Maybe you need to look in your own backyard before you look in mine?

I can't believe that you read Beverly's post and lectured her like you are her mother.

Do you really think someone really cares about which website you belong to or that you are a "charter member" and who your friends are? Let me answer that for you: NO! Where do you get off acting like mother know it all?
And what do you have against "lurkers"? I, for one, prefer to read the posts and learn as much as I can from the people here. I post when I feel my message adds value to the message.

I Alexandra am the original writer for the post named "We Need Your Help". As I wrote my post this morning I was sure the members of NR would be more than excited to see something with meaning on this forum. I was hurt and very disappointed as I was reading everyones replies. Those of you who feel the March of Dimes, is a scam or even worse, actually supports abortion, obviously have not researched that for yourselves. One person decided they would much rather keep all the money they make in their pockets, so wrote a horrible comment to comfort their greed, and now they can make themselves believe they wont help because March of Dimes believes in abortion. Please I challenge you to go to the website, don't make a single donation but just read some of the stories of those who have been helped thanks to the march of dimes. I believe and have faith in the March of Dimes, when my aunt lost her baby girl after prematurity she began the walk with March of Dimes. I believe it gave her the strength she needed to carry on. I expected more from a group of people who joined a site thats motto is "The Premier website for PROFESSIONAL Notaries"

Exactly! While a good cause like many other charities, it doesn't belong here....we all have our charities - Many of us, I'm sure support all kinds of foundations. We know all about the March of Dimes, The Jerry Lewis Telethon, American Cancer Society, StJude's Children's Hospital, the overseas children's places, Amvets, Purple Hearts, Salvation Army...etc, etc....This is a professional notary forum, not a place to solicit donations for YOUR charity, what don't you get about it?
I'm an huge advocate of animal shelters, but I wouldn't post asking people to go to a website and donate.
Don't get your feelings hurt, just don't use our forum to solicit.

I support the Shriners

but you won't see me posting anything about them here on NotRot. I could see if it were an organization that directly deals with the office of Notary Public and/or the work of signing agents... but it does not.

Solicitation on this board isn't a good idea. If we allow any exceptions, before you know it, notaries that fail in their business are going to come on and ask for a donation. Something in the line of: "Hello everyone. I've been a signing agent for a couple of years but didn't manage it properly. As a result, I lost my house. Please give me some of your hard earned money." Smile

(hey... maybe I should give that a try!)

Umm, I'm a student trying to earn my degree in paralegal studies. Do you want to help me pay my student loan off? If so please send me a check.

The Hurricane Katrina disaster is something totally different than the March of Dimes. I could see in times of crisis people coming on to the board to solicit donations.

I understand that the March of Dimes is a great organization. When I worked at Jeanne D'Ark Credit Union (sp?) we sponsored an event on behalf of March of Dimes. Every year JDCU continues to volunteer for them.

Hey Alexandra...just be careful of the advice FlaMac gives. It's rarely accurate. As for your original post...Instead of posting the request for Walk America, why not send out an email to those in your address book? My friend has MS but I don't come on here and ask people to donate to it. If you have an open mind and can accept constructive criticism, you will do fine here.

HEY ALEXANDRA

I have posted a few times that my daughter is autistic and and my son is AS on these boards. I would love for the members here to read about and help support research. When National Autism Awareness month comes I'm not going to address my collegues with a plea for money. I'll just let everyone know some things I have said in the past such as 1 in every 150 children born in CA today are born on the Autistic Spectrum. I have full confidence that my collegues are intellent enough to decide for themselves whether or not they would like to research the disabililty and possibly contribute whether it be thier time or thier money.

Other groups that need your help

We all know that illegal immigration is a hot political topic these days. Living in Southern California I can see firsthand the effects that a large group of illegal aliens can have on society and the drain they've placed on our Social Services, our schools, our police, etc.

Luckily for us there is an organization out there that is doing their best to keep traditional American values alive, the same values that our forefathers lived by and used to make our country strong. Let's get America back, support the Ku Klux Klan!

http://www.kkklan.com/

Or if hate and violence isn't your thing I have a loving alternative. Donate to NAMBLA, the L stands for Love!

http://www.nambla.org/

Want something a bit more rooted in Christian ideals? Fred Phelps and his group could always use financial support. They're spreading the word of the Lord far and wide through their fine organization and making us all see the error of our ways.
