Wedding Ceremonies
I just got my first order to perform a wedding. I have a few questions. What is the charge for this service?

Being a former Notary in FL, I believe, (at least 5 years ago) you were allowed to charge 100.00. Check the FL hand book also and see if there is a limit.

You have NEVER been allowed to charge $100, per statute. What you can charge, by statute (now $30, previously $20) may be supplemented for other services, such as photographs, flowers, etc. There is no cap on the total charge, as long as the fee is agreeable with the notary/officiate and the party paying for the service.

I have done several weddings in the past and if I am not mistaken in FL we can only charge $20.00 for the actual ceremony. You may want to go to myflorida.com and check it out. Good Luck!

Wrong... Florida notaries - you have to keep abreast ...
of what's going on in this state. As of last year, the fee allowed for solemnizating matrimony is $30.00. [F.S.A. 28.24(24) http://tinyurl.com/lw6q3]

Re: Wrong... Florida notaries - you have to keep abreast ..
Unfortunately, the MyFlorida site takes the information from the published Governor's Manual, which was last published in 2000 and republished in 2001. There hasn't been much in the way of notary reform in Florida, so there hasn't been a real need to update the manual. The best way to keep informed, is to frequently visit the Florida Senate website (http://www.flsenate.gov/Statutes/index.cfm?Mode=View%20Statutes&Submenu=1&Tab=statutes) to see "what's going on" and monitor the lawmaker activity. You may also want to get the Governor's weekly emails - to subscribe, go to: http://www.myflorida.com/myflorida/subscribe.html or you can access the website at http://www.govfloridaforum.com.
