Would you sign for $40?

The escrow company I get most of my work from started using a signing service that wants to pay us notaries $40 but they charge more to the clients then what I use to. I have done a lot of work for the escrow company and I would like to continue but I can not work for $40. They have atleast 4 pages to notarize in every set. That would be 8 sigs for a couple or $80 not including travel fees. Does anyone or would anyone work for $40? That is the lowest I have every seen. I am just not sure if I want to sign up with them. I can't believe a company has so little respect for us to offer that little.

You can thank the bad signing agents for that one...

and the broker's. They don't build trust with the borrower the way they should. They really give the good signing agents a bad reputation. And now you are paying for it unfortunately. So, the TC is getting a SS to handle it. It's a shame we can't take charge of our own destiny by setting our industry's fee's. I wonder if it's that TC's are having such awful experiences with signing agents who have no business dealing with people?

So they have just lowered the fee to make up for the RTC's and mess ups. Title companies take a hit when they have to process a loan that doesn't fund. I work for many. It's one of their main complaints. I've seen two here locally close because they weren't making a profit. It's a shame too because they were very nice ladies to work with and they always paid on time. Sorry that happened but a lil' marketing and you'll have one even betterSmile

Once again you are talking out the side of your mouth and throwing out misinformation. A BO can use their RTC for any number of reasons. You make it sound like the BO makes the choice because of the SA's mess ups and not because of the terms of the loan.

no, I would not. The industry is getting squeezed and more SS's are going out of business, for lack of business. Stick to your guns and keep marketing. If your experienced sign up with more TC's.

BTW: Flamac, if you do a search, is not someone anyone should take advice from, this poster needs to learn the profession she's trying to act like she knows so much about. Unfortunately, it's all misinformation and exaggeration that she offers. No one in their right mind or without 100K E&O insurance would take her advice on Anything.

Good Luck! Smile

Charm's right. The better way to go once you have some experience is to sign up and work directly for TCs. There are a few really good/fair SS out there but those are few and far between.

I also agree that FlaMac is not one to take advice from. It's usually wrong.

Deal directly for the TC. They know you as you have been working with them in the past for your area. There is no reason for you to have to take a $40 fee. They are trying to keep their profit margins of the past by cutting the fees to people they have to pay out to, ie US signing agents.

Definitely not. I was asked to do two closings for $75, pick up docs from escrow, have the borrower sign and take it back to escrow and another $75 for 1st and 2nd edocs and it needs to be done tonight. I'll give both to you, please help me. Sorry, I don't work for free so that signing company can make money.

I wonder if the title company knows what the ss is paying the notaries, if you say that the
signing service is getting more than you were charging then I would call the TC and let them know. We all know that they will be getting less good quality from the $40.00 signers.

Re: Would you sign for $40? Only when Hell freezes over!

How do you know they would get low quality signers for $40? Maybe someone that would accept a $40 signing (not that I would) has a full time job and is just doing signings for extra money. I have been doing this for over 4 years and I have a full time job ( I do signings so that I can do fun things such as buy shoes Smile ). If NREIS calls me and offers me $75 to do a signing, I would accept it because I like NREIS and I know they will pay me on time. I just dont think it is fair of you guys to considering these people low quality just because they accept low fees.
