2nd trip fees - how much is fair...?
Hi Guys,
I'm going back today to the borrowers house for the second time. The first time around, the lender didn't include some of the docs and they are paying me (no fault of my own. I already checked with the lender why these weren't there, but he said to go ahead and get what I have signed and that if needed, he will send me out a second time.)
I'm charging him $1 per mile + $25 (there are less than 10 docs that they need to sign, 2 to notarize).
when you have to go back, do you have a standard trip fee charge...? In case of a cancelled/no signing, how much is fair to charge for per mile...?
The loan officer has no problem at all with my fees. This has turned out to be one of the most profitable sigings. I coupled it with another signing the first time and today my trip is reduced by almost 1/2 (one way) because i work close to where the signing is.
What is a fair charge..? Any opinions..?

Personally, I tend to bill second trip fees depending on how much time it will take me to complete it, and how many docs are involved. In the case of a few extra pages I don't usually charge much if anything for printing, really. But, I don't count in miles, I count in minutes. If it's under 30 minutes total, then I'll do it for $25.00 including printing the few extra docs. That's mostly a courtesy fee. If it will clearly take more than 30 minutes RT, and/or if we are talking 20+ pages/docs, then I bill starting at $50.00 and go up from there. You have to guess how much time it will take to get the required signatures from your clients, based on your first experience with them. Are they yappers? Or can you get in and out in 5-10 minutes? All food for thought.

They are yappers for sure, but were real nice. All I had to
do was to tell them that I had another signing to go to, and they were really quick.
They were sweethearts... Seriously..
It will most probably take me about 10 - 15 minutes to get the stuff signed, but the killer is going to be the timing to get back home... So CA traffic.... YIKES....
Thanks for your thoughts/opinions.

PS: no printing docs for this either.. They overnighted them
which includes the borrower's copy.
