Confused about starting a Notary Business in MD
Hello Friends!
I am interested in signing up with Vital Signings, but I am really not clear what the procedures are for taking on this kind of work in MD. As a MD notary, what is required of me by MD Law? What would my title be in running this kind of business? Also, what should I look out for when signing up with a company?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Strange Now a poster from AK claiming to want to start a Notary Business in MD?? Is this the same poster who said they were a "new bee in FL"????

Sylvia,
you must be getting this AK information from the wrong source. I am in FL. Not in MD.

Strange
Obviously there is some problem. If you look at the top of the message it shows where the person is posting from. Even though I put my name as Sylvia-FL, it still says Sylvia_Fl of Fl at the top of the message to indicate I am in Florida. Top of your message is:
Anonymous from 8.10.57.154 of AK on 5/11/06 11:31am
So it is showing that you are in AK. There is possibly a problem with the system. Maybe Harry can fix it.

Re: Strange
By default, unknown IP addresses show AK (Alaska). The person has not provided an address in their profile to update the system. Harry also has said that once in a while, the system can't figure out the correct address and he has to override it. Which may be the case.

Sylvia,
For some reason the system listed me in AK, but I am in MD. Did you have any advice that would help me?

Isn't a title producer's license required for
handling mortgage documents in MD?
And along those lines, hypothetically speaking, if I were to do a refi in CT for a MD property, would I have to have a title producer's license, or is that not a recording law? Just out of curiosity...

That's right...
Get sarcastic with the most helpful, well respected signing agent in all the land. See how far that gets you with the rest of us.
My advice, if you don't know what is required, what the procedures are for taking this kind of work, and what your title would be, you shouldn't be thinking about signing up with anyone any time soon. As far as what to look out for in a signing company, if you'd bothered to read any posts for even the last couple of days you'd have the answer. But why bother when you can just pop on in without any work on your part and have everything handed to you. Yep, looks like the new batch of unprepared notaries were released from school this week.
You're welcome in advance.

Re: That's right...
Not sure where you're finding sarcasm or why you're even bothering to look for it.
Asking questions from what I perceived to be some of the best notaries is one aspect of doing the research to find out how to do the job properly. If what I have done is any of your concern, I have read some of the posts, but the feedback on some of the organizations were not 100% clear. I believe we ask questions in order to have clarification where confusion may exist.
How about offering some type of beneficial answer and positive reinforcement rather than attacking a person who is asking for help in an area where the answers are not very straight forward? Beth was kind enough to help me (THANK YOU AGAIN BETH), so you don't have to worry about this fresh from school unprepared notary asking any more questions from a seasoned professional such as yourself.

When it comes to Sylvia...think of someone smarting off at your mother and you'll get the point of how every NSA in the USA feels about her.

"Did you have any advice that would help me?"
Sarcasm, plain as day.
I did give you a beneficial answer. You want to sign up with a company so you can start getting work, but don't know what it even takes to be a signing agent in your state? You're not ready to sign up for anything. Sorry, not the hugs and kisses you were hoping for, just the truth.

See my "Strange" response above.
This will explain, possibly, why "AK" appears instead of MD (or in the other case, FL).
