Downloading pdf wont' work again. Continuing Saga.
I had previously posted that my pdf files would not download from email, otherwise my adobe 7.0 works great. Got some great suggestions and tried them (mainly deleted program and downloaded again - and I live in the sticks - no dsl - so this was time consuming). Once again I could download pdf. I 'm happy. logged off internet. Later signed back on internet and same problem. I'm just stuck. Don't know what to do now. You can't very well work in this business if you can't download pdf. Anyone who has any more suggestions I appreciate your time as I did the first people that responded.

Definitely not a techy...but have read numerous times on boards that all other Adobe versions must be uninstalled before installing 7.0 or bad things will happen. This may be repetitive as I haven't read the whole previous thread.

Unfortunately that is not the problem. 7.0 is the only version that I have loaded and have made no changes to the program. Obviously I'm just not living right. I'm sure something happened to make a change but it had to be an update or something that I'm not aware of, maybe automatic update is not the best.

There are a multitude of things that can change a file in a program, Unless tou know which updates to choose, what option do you have? Though I do agree Auto update is NOT the best option, you would have to know what and what not to update.

Next time you download adobe, save to desktop, and install. Keep the execute file do not delete after you have installed it. This way if you ever need it again you already have it. Good luck

Thanks, but the second time I downloaded it I did have enough sense to realize to save the installation program. I appreciate all suggestions though as I have run out of things to try.

Have you tried a system restore?

This is what i did.
I had the same problem about 6 months or so ago. I finally gave up on 7.0 and reinstalled 6.0 and have not had one problem with Adobe since. I also haven't encountered any packages that actually required 7.0.

Re: Downloading pdf wont' work again. Pam...
Have tried system restore twice, going back further each time. No go. I have deleted the program and re-installed it twice, the first time it worked then quit, the second time nothing. I guess I will delete 7.0 and go back to 6.0 as suggested because I have put way too many hours into this to show no results, guess that's what comes from not being techy. I thank everyone for their suggestions and think you're all great to take the time to try and help.
Thanks Brenda that's going above and beyond!

Re: Downloading pdf wont' work again. Pam... FYI
I just downloaded professional version 7.0 acrobat night before last, I know it says to remove older versions of acrobat however I didn't. I did print a signing file last night, no issues so far. I also did not remove other versions on my work computer at school, just left them on. I'm sorry your having such difficulty Pam, guess I should thank my lucky stars. The only reason I downloaded 7.0 was due to the need to work at on school documents, the end of the school is also crunch time and as much as I hate to work at home on school stuff sometimes you need to. If it had not been for this I would not have dowloaded 7.0 I didn't find I needed it or notary work.

I suggest that this is **not** and Adobe problem, but a problem with the browser or system settings. Possibly even a system registry problem. When the Reader is installed, by default, it sets the PDF file association to launch the Reader. If this association is getting corrupted, replaced or removed, then the automatic launching of the Reader will fail.
I don't remember if you are using Firefox or Internet Explorer. Or some "branded" version of a browser like the AOL browser. You may need to check on things like your security level, whether or not the appropriate plug-in is installed. (IE doesn't need an Adobe Reader plugin, but does require a file association for files with PDF extensions.)
Of course, the question remains, what transpired on your system since the last time it worked correctly? Was anything installed? Did you visit any websites that launch any Active-X scripts?
Have your run HiJackThis? If not, download it and run it. BE VERY CAREFUL with this tool. If you don't know what you're looking at, you can easily destroy your system with a corrupted registry.

Re: browser
i find the firefox browser sometimes prints the pdf and sometimes acts like the request is some alien request. so i highlight and copy the link in the browser address window and then minimize firefox window --- find internet explorer and paste it that address window, click go and it should open

Re: browser
Make sure you have the latest version of Firefox and the correct and latest Adobe Reader plugin. From what you're describing, it sounds like an out-of-date plugin, especially if you're using Adobe Reader 7.x.
