How long do you wait for docs?

I am sitting here at 5:37, still waiting for docs for a 6:00 siging. Have sent 2 emails and made 2 phone calls. To compound the aggrevation, this is a signing that is on it's 3rd reschedule. What do you? I'm ready to send them an email stating the job is cancelled and call me if they would like to renegoiate....fyi, the SS is getting paid $400 according to the HUD...my fee: $100 for edocs. I'm also thinking about sending an invoice for time spent and appts. lost.

You could email for revised pricing for all the maintenance time. If you want to be really bold tell them that you completing the signing is contingent on revised pricing. Did you print the other times that it was scheduled?
I have had edocs come through 1/2 hour after the scheduled aptmt time. I just keep the
bo posted of the situation and ask what their time restraints are.

Tell them bo might cancel if you're not there in an hour. You will know for sure if this loan is ready or not for tonight.

I have talked with the borrower---they are ready to sign. Left messages for anyone in the SS office I could find a number for. Sent emails to all the people I have rec'd them from. So annoying!

Ask bo if they can call their LO to see what's going on b/c of the no response you're getting. I think you should get ready for another reschedule being this late in the day.

I have spoken with the bo...they were going to try their lender. I left another message at the SS with a different person. I also sent them back an email saying I would be happy to renegociate my fee if they would like me to complete the signing. Also attached an invoice for 1/2 of my fee for printing out 2 (actually 4 w/ bo copies) sets of escrow docs and turning down 2 other jobs because I took this one first. Doubt I'll ever see that $50, but it felt good!

Is this a company you have done work for before? Why I ask is if you have not signed an agreement with them, I would think if they (now) have you finish this assignment you have relayed your terms. Ask them to respond with the revised pricing before you complete the signing.

Prevention measures...

When I take a signing I ask them when they expect the docs to be ready. If they are not ready right then, I look at my schedule and I give the scheduler a 'drop dead' time. (I have to have the docs by this time in order to complete this signing.) I always call about 45 min before the time if I don't have them and say.... time is ticking and I need these because I have other appts.) If they don't come by the DD time... I cancel if I have to. If I can push it back and give them more time, I do... but it all depends on my shedule.

Also, if I have a rogue signing (one that is not following the rules) I will call the borrowers and feel out their shedule for the next few days... I let them know that we are going to get this done as soon as humanly possible which is why I need to know how their times are looking and I will call to finalize the appt once I have the docs 'in hand'.

This gives you broader scheduling possibilites and doesn't make the TC look stupid that the appt has to be rescheduled time and time again. *** This would NOT work in the last days of the month or when you are slammed.

****Also, if I have a signing that I print for and then it re-schedules and they ask for a re-print... I ALWAYS get a new confirmation for the new signing that includes the second print fee. (Example: Your E-doc signing for yesterday = $100.00. If it doesn't happen and you have to re-schedule and re-print... get a new confirmation for the new appt. that says $125.00.)

This is just my opinion. It sounds like you are being a little 'too accomodating' and are letting them dictate all kinds of things that are affecting your schedule, your time and your money. Don't be afraid to be assertive and take control of your own schedule... it's YOUR business. Don't let 'em push you around because they will take advantage of anything and everything if you let them.

Thanks!

Thank you for that...I always have a hard time being 'forceful'! The first time it cancelled and they called to reschedule, I didn't really have a problem. I understand that's how this biz can be. But when they cancelled a 2nd time and then didn't me the docs, that's insane.

Thanks for reminding me it's okay to assert myself!

Re: Thanks!

When docs aren't ready by my deadline, I simply tell whoever hired me to please call me when the documents are ready and then we can reschedule.

Nobody pays me enough to be on call for hours or days waiting for docs.

"Thanks for reminding me it's okay to assert myself!"

It's not okay to assert yourself, it's NECESSARY IN BUSINESS to assert yourself. You think people like Oprah got to where they are by being wimps?

Re: Thanks!

I have never been a total wimp, but either age or the notary business has taken what little bit was left of the wimp in me and run it completely out of town.
