Hello, I'm new at the notary business, I have over 100 signings already, but I have done them thru my family, they have a mortgage co. But now business is slow, I need to get the same amount of business somewhere else. But I have been contacted by all this companies, trying to pay me 50.00. My questions is do I need to take them, I'm afraid to say NO, and nobody calling again. What should I do????? Help!!!!!

Business is slow but not entirely out the door. Right now almost everything has slowed down (except gas hikes!!) because of the fear factor relevant to stock market.. Don't jump from the frying pan into the fire. .Once you sign on with a SS to accept low fee's you're stuck with a contract that says you will accept that fee for each signing they call you for. Of course you can always cancel your contract and then you're back to square one again. Just because the SS calls & sends you their contract doesn't mean you have to sign & send back. At EOM you'd be surprised how many Co's call for last minute signings. Also, I hope you are not depending on this biz as your only source of income. If so, then you need to do a lot of heavy marketing (have you tried other mtg co's direct?).. Also check out PAW's website. He has a great marketing tool offer.

SS is the signing service company who contacts you & some (not all) will you a contract to sign up with them. Generally the one's who send you a contract have lots of hoops to go through and although nitpicky in some cases, it can be a learning experience. EOM

OOPS! Hand slipped. EOM is end of month when everyone goes nuts trying to beat the deadline for the loans to close.

$50 is just too low...especially with gas priced at $3.50 a gallon...but you are sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place...yes you have done 100 signings, which is great...but that really is not that many...you need to get more experience and if only signing companies will hire you right now then you might not have a choice if you really want to make being a signing agent your full time job....but you need to ask for more money...most signing companies are meeting notries requests becuase they know that gas is just so expensive....you need to play a little hard ball with them...but when you do it, do it nicely casue you want them to call you back so you can get more experience.

Since you have posted without any link it's hard to tell what area you are in but it may be because you're new & the Co. is going by the "recommended" beginning fee suggested on NNA website?? When I get a call I always ask what they are authorized to pay. A few times they don't like my fee & they go elsewhere, but it's one less pkg I'm not printing out at a price less than I'm comfortable with. I know what it costs me for my time, equip & expenses, so I'm not concerned that they will find someone else to do it for next to nothing. It's not my equip, time & gas being given away. You say you've done 100 signings for your family in the mtg business. Did you ever see a notary fee in the loan doc's for the price of $50.00 or $85.00? Don't think so...You can click on my link & send me an e-mail & I'll try to help you with other possibililties in the NSA biz if you want.

Boy, that sounds like a successful business plan to me.
It's not worth your time and you'll make no money from it, but you're doing it anyway? Why? In the hopes that they'll send you more $85 edoc packages that won't be worth your time that you'll make no money from?
I swear, I just don't understand the mentality in here sometimes.

Go & do a search to read msg#120643. It gives you a pretty good idea re: low fee's. Just click on the orange button and put the number in where it says msg#

if they are desperate enough...they will call you back. I've had one who complaint my fees were to high (cough/laugh BS!!!) and they would takeme off their database, but until this day, they still call me back all the time! Its out of deseperation at times. But sometimes they are more so clueless on what the going rate is for the area. Just be FIRM with your fee's and if they don't like it, oh well. but they will call back if they can't find anyone else. dee

Trena As most signing services are Nationwide, just sign up with as many as you can. But, I have to tell you, Florida is saturated with signing agents. I have a signing service and right now there are over 80 signing agents listed for Tallahassee alone on one site. (and most companies go by the county not the city - and you can imagine how many will be listed for Leon county) So, hope you are not going to be relying on signings as a main source of income.
Read all the messages on this board and you will learn a lot

I have done 4 signings for SS. All of them i was paid
something that we both agreed on as fair. I have not signed and sent even one signle contract in. When one of the companies that called me said that I will need to sign their contract before they could send me the confirmation e-mail, I told them that they could find someone else. But a few minutes later I had the e-mail confirmation for the ammt agreed and I performed the signing, faxed to them my W9 and was paid within 10 days.
I did turn down a few signings that were ridiculous offers.
