NSA ethics question
It's 8:00 a.m. You get a call from signing service A to do a closing at 2:30 p.m. that day. An hour later signing service B calls and asks if you're available to do a closing at 4:30. You tell them yes, thinking that you will be done with the first one by then. Signing Service A calls you back and asks you to reschedule the appointment from 2:30 to 4:30 because the borrower requested the change. It's more convenient for them. You're already booked to do a closing at 4:30. You tell them to find someone else. They tell you that they can't. Does signing service A have any right to expect you to do the closing at the new time? Should you be able to say no to them and walk away from the signing without fear of reprisal? You wanted to be able to do both, but you can only do one now. If you had a choice, you would rather do the signing at 4:30 for signing service B because it pays more, and signing service B is a better client. What is the right way to handle this situation?

Basically state what you just said here: " I am sorry, I have the 2:30 available and am booked at 4:30, I can do it afterward or..... ( if you are comfortable w/ this) I can refer you to some one else than may be able to do the signing at 2:30"
You shouldn't feel intimidated, there is no need for " Fear of reprisal". This is your biz .

I agree with you, Jenny_CA. Early bird (in this case, SS or TC) gets the worm with regards to my schedule, and if a previously scheduled appointment has to shift time due to BO or docs not ready, I'll try my best to work it in. However, at that particular point the reschedule goes to the back of the line.

The 2:30 pm moves to after the 4:30 pm if necessary. Don't screw up your entire schedule.

This is what I was thinking is the best way to handle it. When the 2:30 appointment gets rescheduled, it then becomes a matter of the signing agent scheduling it at his or her convenience -- not the borrowers convenience.

The way I see it...
If I made an appointment with my doctor, a lawyer, or a car mechanic...for that matter, & I got home and realized that I had a time conflict, would I call them and expect them to change their schedule for "my convenience" ONLY? No, I would let them know my convenient times, and they would fit me in at their convenience. Would I stop using their service, because they were not willing to change their schedule to fit my needs? Absolutely not! If they have a "proven track record" of good work, I am willing to work around their schedule.
You have no obligation to this company if they change the time. You are either available or not available. That is why we are Independant Contrators. If this company is happy with your work, they should understand. If they don't, they are probably not worth the hassle. JMHO.
