New Service to help notaries get paid
Hi All,
One of our own, an experienced long-time notary in CO, has gotten tired of the signing companies that don't pay, or don't pay what was agreed, or try and blame us (the notaries) when signings blowup, and is going to try and do something about it. She already runs a great service called notarybeware.com. And now, she is starting the American Notary Alliance to help with collections and getting legislation to help protect us.
Please consider joining.

JMHO but you are asking for big trouble if you try to involve legislation for this. I don't agree with ripping notaries off at all, however I think the less attorneys that are involved in our business as SA's the better off we are. Just my 2 cents.

The last thing we need is legislation
I'm afraid if you involve state legislators in this, it will open the doors for MORE ATTORNEY ONLY states. If they think (the legislators, most of whom are lawyers or retired lawyers) that there is money to be made doing this, they will not pass legislation to protect us, but to BAR us from making a living doing this. This legislation would have to be passed in EVERY state that is not already an attorney only state (about 45 or so). Does she really want to tackle this for the relatively small amounts of monies owed?
In the overall scheme of things, the amounts that are not paid for is a very small slice of the pie. NO ONE LIKES to work and not get paid, but we ARE NOT EMPLOYEES, but independent contractors (BUSINESS OWNERS). They don't call the accounting paperwork done each month the Profit and LOSS statement because business is ALL profit -- NOT!! Please, do not be short sighted about this.
Now if your friend wants to start some kind of a collection service to assist us in getting our money, I don't have a problem with this.

Okay, I like notarybeware.com but please explain what more can be done to fix things through legislation? It's not uncommon knowledge that people are to pay their bills. Can you be more specific?
Legislation in Texas would kill what little bit we have left to sign.
thanks...Brenda
