I missed the race but have been reading the latest news. One of his bones was shattered in at least 20 pieces. A plate, and 23 screws later and the poor horse still only has a 50/50 chance. The horse is a fighter for sure. I sure would like to see the vet bill on that one. Hope he can stud.

Yes they think he will be a good Stallion, and the ankle being broken in so many places but did you hear he was jumping on his leg after being lifted out of pool..... Doc said the jumping did not harm...I have hear 80 % chance...

I had heard on fox last night that he was almost galloping back to his stall, which yes is great. As long as an infection doesn't set in he has a good chance. What I would like to know about is the possible risk of reinjury. Being a trained race horse with the spirit and drive to run could he reinjure himself with a hard run in the medow?

I would hope not and I suspect they will watch him closely or as close as possible, what a beautiful animal......the doc sounds very pleased and I have a feeling this horse is going to heal well...lets hope for no infection.....

Doc said this morning on GMA that he is acting like a 3 yr old thoroughbred should, "he's interested in all the mares." Let's all hope for the best, like you said "What a horse!" He's a beauty and a champ.

It was such a sad sight to see him just standing there waiting. You could tell he was in serious pain. The atmosphere at Pimlico just wasn't the same after the race this year.

>>The atmosphere at Pimlico just wasn't the same after the race this year.<< I can imagine that it wasn't. After having seen Barbaro at the Derby, then to know that this tragedy has struck him, I can truly appreciate how the atmosphere was at Pimlico. I just hope he makes it through.

My horse had a broken right hind ankle last fall. She was in her stall in a cast and splint and various bandages for nearly 5 months, so Barbaro's not going for a romp in the meadow anytime soon. Risk of reinjury is real - but they will keep him as still as possible for as long as possible. I predict this horse will heal to "pasture sound" - he may never be entirely without a limp, but usually the main problem in cases like this is the owner runs out of money. Don't think that will be a problem with the prospect of big bucks for stud fees waiting.

He is a beauty huh, what a life....out to stud for the rest of his years.....not a bad gig... Sharon how is your horse today? I had a a beautiful buckskin, interestingly enough, his name was Buck, just a big beautiful fellow and then my sis had her horse Blaze, I will remember them always....

A couple of months ago we were behind a horse trailer on a mountain road. It was cold and we were getting a bit of sleet. The traffic was real heavy and we weren't going more than 20 mph. But traffic suddenly came to a stop and the truck with the trailer had to hit the brakes. The poor horse hit it's head on the wall and went down. The only thing faster than a realtor at jumping out of a car is someone who's horse went down. I asume the horse was ok because we saw them on the freeway an hour later. But then again they could've been on their way to the vet.

Well they may have to use invitro. It will be a miracle if that horse can ever get on his hind legs to stud. I don't know if they would do that but they will almost anything if there's money in it.

Actually the woman who is my horse trainer knows the vet that patched him up. She was into both Standardbred and Thoroghbred racing big time for a while. She says after he heals they will have to put metal plates into his legs that will allow him to put his weight on the back legs for breeding. She has seen it done before. When I saw the film of the race I felt sick! I hope the poor boy pulls through and goes on to a long life in the stud barn.

There was a Spokes Hole from the race track on the news last night, pleasant enough but his take on everything I found to be very negative. I prefer to hear the actual doc speak to the future expectations and current status and healing of Barbaro. Think positive!!!!!!!!!
