OT Kitty Help OT
I was walking the dogs and tiny kitty put out a panic call...such an angel. I have to take it to a shelter. So cute. My neighbor loaned me a crate. I had nothing in this house but some bits of chicken but he/she/it loved it...a tabby. My dogs scared it so much that it poo'ed on me two or three times...bless it. But now it wants to be the boss. Really cute. I just don't have time to socialize it with my dogs. Tell me not to feel guilty to take it to the shelter. I have to enter an inspection this am and cannot play with it so that's good for me; it's already asleep in its crate.

Brenda you always make us smile....shelters are better than tossing the kitty aside or abandoning it in the middle of the desert. You wouldn't believe how many people take an animal out to the outskirts of town thinking it will find a new home only to become a victim of either a predator or human abuse.

Re: OT Kitty Help OT Agree with anon.. to a point.
I live on those outskirts, and shelters around here euthanize animals on the spot. There is just no room to keep them. These shelters charge on average $25 bucks for you to bring in strays, they will NOT come pick them up. It is far more humane to get out the .22 once in a while then to let them run wild or fall victim to whatever.

I agree with you to an extent, Lawrence, but I am also aware that we have a good shelter here.

Make sure it is a NO-KILL shelter that you take it too. Cats are such fun creatures. It's great that you were there to help the kitty.
We have 5 cats, and all of them were abandoned. We have the twins, which are gorgeous female tortoise shells that are so funny. They were dropped off on our road (one lane narrow dirt road in the middle of nowhere) Then we have Grizz, a 3 year old male grey and white Himalayan that is beautiful that was so freaked out by the greater outdoors when he found us, he wouldn't leave the crate that I put outside for him for a month. Now he sleeps on the roof. We just moved to another extremely rural area, and the last owners left 2 cats here, one is blind and has a deformed tale, the other just won't let anyone near it. But they were here without food for 5 months before we bought the place. I'm so allergic to cats that none can come inside, but we love them all and get so much pleasure just watching them. It's so wonderful to come home from a closing and have all 3 cats run to the car to say Hi.

I tried to convince my mother's boyfriend on the phone this morning that this kitty was saying WAR-REN, WAR-REN as he is the closest to a cat lover in our family...he said his kids already tried that with him and said kitties were saying "Peee-paw, Peeee-paw." The neighbor's wife sent over kitty food just now...cross your fingers and say a prayer....they are weakening.

Thanks, Cyndi - I will make a donation when I go and ask them to give me a call before D-Day if they have one. I will put a sign out as well in my neighborhood.

I knew I could count on you guys...even for kitty advice.
Yesterday, I told my son for the right price, I could put out a call to the notaries and someone would go find that shredded dress for him in a Anne Taylor store. (earlier thread.) You guys are the GREATEST resource in the world.
I swear, if the signing industry dips, there is something here for us to do as a nationwide network of willing workers who are sharp, trained and dependable.

Do NOT become attached to the kitten if you are going to put it up for adoption. I know it hard but believe me it best for you and it. WAFT will be able to find it a good home in no time. We have two apple head Siamese we got at rescue shelters. The people who run these shelters truly love animals and have nothing but the pet’s best interest at heart.

I should have kept my big mouth shut
You live and you learn. The kids are nagging me for a second dog because I told them I would think about it when we get to TX. Dog number 1 will be an outside dog only because I don't want fleas in the house. She will need a buddy in the yard with her.

1 tip I learned the hard way ...
If you think you ever in your life may want to adopt from the shelter - have someone ELSE take the kitty in! I was put on a 'black-list' at our shelter, barred from ever adopting (not even allowed to go in and pet/play with any detainees!) because I'd taken in strays!! Unbelievable to black-list the type of person MOST LIKELY to adopt!
On the other hand, once you know they've done this to you - you can go in to adopt with another person (using their name/ID). Darn good thing for my cat that I figured out THAT manuever or he wouldn't be living here!

Re: Renee: 1 tip I learned the hard way ... OT
Seriously do mean it, sister. They made me CRY! I couldn't believe it. Had taken in two dogs over a few years - one young lab I'd kept a few weeks while looking for it's owner, and I did FIND the owner a few days after turning the dog over to shelter, so they were re-united. Second time, a very old & frail thing that had stroked, could only walk in circles, found her on Christmas Eve - kept her for a week, for the sake of the Season, and then took her in. About a year later, I wanted to adopt a dog ... went to the shelter, they required ID to even enter the 'dog room', even just to VISIT - they took my I.D., and then informed me "I'm sorry, but we can't let you adopt." Upon pressing them - they told me why (drop off an animal, you're on the Bad People list).
