I did a signing at least a year ago, 8 signers, four dogs, 6 kids all on vacation but they were the nicest family......just a busy room and I didn't bring enough blue pens and they had none. Now I keep a min of ten blue pens at all times....

What is the price per notarization in your state? Are you going to be traveling outside of your normal area? Do you have to have your journal signed per your state requirements? All things to consider. b.

Yes to all the issues.
But the states says I can charge 10 per signature and there are going to be 2 signatures and 2 documents that would be 16000 I don't think they would go for that.

I agree that wouldn't work
Will you be paid with one check? By the Association? I would give a discount figure but that would be a flat fee per hour. Some parents may have the paper work already notarized and then you will be dealing with less people. I would try and come up with an hourly rate that would work for you. Then you will be paid for your time. Does this make any sense? I hope so. Beverly

Re: Other Notary Work - Ohhhh....
I have done notarizations like this -- the organization / group has never paid through the organization / group funds, it has always been the parent(s) that pay for the notarization.
AND.... THE STATE OF MICHIGAN DOES NOT SAY WE CAN CHARGE $10 PER SIGNATURE *** IT'S $10 PER NOTARIAL ACT ***!
Example: You are presented with a document that needs to be notarized. You have 2 people that sign before you.... you notarize their signatures and afix your seal. You can only charge $10.00. ___ Another way to look at it is -- you have 20 people sign one document and you only have to sign your name and put your seal on once. It's only $10.00
I am really biting my tongue here now!

Its says both. Read your Maximum Notary Fees. Don't Yell.
Each Signature makes it a Notary Act. I don't understand why you are biting your tonge or yelling. I was asking peoples opionion.

Re: Its says both. Read your Maximum Notary Fees. Don't Yell.
It does not say both! This is not the first time you have said this -- look at previous posts, where others have told you the same.
Do your math again --- you are over charging (per MI Notary Law).
Please provide the MCL or PA that states that it says "both" (I'm sure you won't).

The Queen of Charge More!!! thinks
If you are going to go to a place where you can notarize many, many documents in a line for $2 (less than the amount MI can charge) each and you give out your card to 400 people for instance and you can do it effectively and make $800 or $1600 isn't that a good marketing opportunity plus doing a service for your community?
In Tx if I charged by the Seal / cert. each loan package would cost $132 in most cases.
I have thought of setting up a student day at the college to do the same thing.
What am I missing?

Re: Thanks Brenda, I quoted now we will see if they agree.
I notarized travel permissions for a school where I taught; I did about 30 permissions in one session. One thing that made it easier is that the teacher of the class that was taking the trip knew all the parents, and I knew the teacher, so I could use the teacher as a credible witness instead of looking at driver licenses (and in some cases, I knew the parents and could use personal recognition). My state leaves identification to the discretion of the notary; unlike some other states where credible witnesses can only be used as a last resort.

Re: Thanks Brenda, I quoted now we will see if they agree.
Okay this is how I was looking at it.
The person in charge puts out the word that they will have a notary available to notarize the documents and it will only cost $10 per signature. She will be available from 8-4 on Sat. Well you arrive get set up expecting to make over $1000. because you were told how many people etc. People start coming in but they all went to their bank, credit union, friend down the street etc. Now you have agreed to be there until 5 pm. You do end up doing 10-15 notarization's but it's not the big $$$ you thought you would make. You check your cell phone because while you were in the Gym you couldn't get reception so you missed 4 calls for closings and your out that as well.
This maybe worst case scenario but I doubt it. If you agree to a hourly fee then no matter how many notarization's you do you will know how much money you will make. Of course I would still hand out the business cards either way. Just my point of view, Beverly

Re: SarahBeth - Other Notary Work - Ohhhh....
SaraBeth -- I am well aware that typing in caps is yelling. I was indeed. Janlee is a new notary who has been told before that she is not following Michigan Notary Laws / Regulations. She plainly ignores to read what the State of Michigan has told all of us to read. If she has read any of the notary laws, she must not understand what they are saying. She could easily call the State Notary Division for clairfication. From the States website -- Janlee has only been commissioned since 09/22/05. I don't want other notaries from MI to feel that what Janlee is saying are true facts. That's why I said I was biting my tongue. She also never responds to providing where she is getting this incorrect information from -- requests for the MCL or PA go unanswered.
