Re: expiration.
The NSA has the Certified Signing Agent Cert which expires in 2 years (my notary commission expires before that date). They may be referring to this.

I thought that but they asked for that info at a different spot on the application.

well, if it's not that they are assuming that you are certified perhaps by the NNA as a CNSA ( could be others) but you are right, what you need is your notary commission and not a company's certification. did you try typing 00-00-00?

What signing service are you trying to sign up with? You are correct in that being certified is not a requirement in CA, but... the signing service you are trying to sign up with may only work with notaries that are certified by NNA.
If you can't enter zeros for the date or leave it blank, then print the application and mail it in. Follow up with a phone call.

Is this a signing service/notary search page that only lets you sign up if you take their proprietary super-special notary signing agent certification course? I've come across a few like that.

The heck with that. . .
Certification is only as good as the people/company who issue it. If you can't enter zeros or leave it blank, enter your commission expiration date. Your state "certified" you as a notary.

Doesn't CA have an exam you have to take to get your notary commission? Could this be it? Also invalid date would seem to mean improper format or yes if they require you to take their site certification. But I'm not sure how you can take their certification prior to signing up. I opt on the side of CA state exam.

To clarify ... CA has a test one must take to get a Notary Commission, not a Signing Agent Certification. The only places I see Signing Agent Certifications are thru the NNA or other businesses that offer a Notary Loan Signing Course.
