Refilling Ink Cartridges
Those of you who refill ink cartridges, have you figured a way to prolong the life of the cartridges? After I refill two or three, I get smudges of ink on roller. Does anyone know how to fix this? I hate to waste the ink that's in the cartridge.

From what I've read, you'll only get 2 or 3 refills & then the cartridge/roller/whatever is shot. Again, from reading--not personal experience, when you get the streaks, it's done. I would imagine you can very messily retrieve the powder. Anyone ever tried that? Successfully? How did you do it?

Yes, I have retrieve ink from my cartridge. Use about 2 sheets of clean copy paper and pour the ink out. Roll paper so that you can pour into a funnell. Place funnel in the bottle of ink and pour ink slowly. Hope this help.

I have been able to get 4-5 refills out of a cartridge. When the lines on the sides start, clean roller with alcahol (sp) then take the cartridge outside with a bottle of canned air and blow the crap out of it. Be sure to blow the plastc wheels that turn the roller. Blow the roller from the front and back.
Hope this helps.

i don't use refilling ink cartridges or refurbish cartridges cuz they can ruin your chip on your printer...I used to use refurbish cartridges (i know there is another word for this but my 40ish mind goes blank on me at times... ) & they have ruined my printer and then it has to be replaced. So I stoped using them all together. I know many never had that problem...but many have had the same issue as me. I'm wondering if really does have to do with the type of printer...but then again, explains why printers are so cheap now n' days too.

Dee - that's interesting. I must have saved myself well over $2000 on my hp which cost $300.
I love to fill up around four and look at my work. Took me around an hour to generate $550 by recharging.
My Canon copier/printer is $159 per new one - I usually recharge two at a time.
My HP 3015 is around $90 - $119 (been a long time since I purchased one!) and I do two of those.
It costs me around $20 to do all those as long as I have the cartridges to refill.
OMG - I will NEVER, EVER buy new laser toner cartridges again until I have recharged them all down to the last sheet of paper.

I'm with Brenda
The money I've saved by refilling my toner cartridges has been enough to replace my printer 5 or 6 times over. I'd much rather run the risk of *maybe* having to spend $300 to replace a printer that was somehow damaged by a toner refill than to have to *definitely* spend $75-$100 per month on new toner cartridges.
No risk, no reward, and I've been financially rewarded BIG TIME by refilling my own cartridges.

Re: I'm with Brenda
but if your printer has a much greater value of $300...(like $900-1400) I'm sure you may think totally different there!!!!)

u see....that is what I'm meant....why there are some printers who do just fine and others just go bad by using those type cartridges. that is why I'm wondering if maybe the chip on the printer is just bad (like maybe a lemon!!) or....
with me...every time I used the refillable ones, etc...they would kill my printer. but as soon as I stick to the manufacture ones, my printer lasts forever?! I'm telling you Brenda...I really need to get a restraining order from Uncle Murphy (murphy's law)...he is killing me here!
safe hugz, dee
