Rude
Just a little vent from a closing I did yesterday.
The closing was originally scheduled for 6pm Wed and I had reconfirmed with the borrowers. A few hours before the appointment the borrower called to say they had to go to their son's hockey game and could I come at 9pm instead of 6pm. I wasn't interested in waiting until 9pm to do this closing 25 miles away, but offered to be there earlier, say 4 or 5pm. The borrower then said maybe we should do it the next day, and I said I would be available at 6pm on Thursday. Got the appropriate docs redrawn.
Thursday comes and I get to their home at exactly 6pm. The only sign of life is their dog going crazy inside and jumping up and down knowing I'm at the front door. No one else comes to the door after ringing the bell a few times. There really was no need to ring the bell since the whole neighborhood knew I was there by the dog's barking....LOL.
Finally I go back to my car and call the home number. The borrower answers the phone! I don't know where he had been when the dog was barking, but he says he'll be there to answer the door in a minute or two. He finally gets the dog locked up and answers the door. I ask if his wife is there too and he says yes and leaves the room. I literally sat there for 15 minutes in this totally silent house wondering where the heck he went.
He finally came back in and said his wife wasn't there and he didn't know where she was. He couldn't even reach her on her cell phone. He leaves the room again for 15 more minutes and I sit there again in this totally silent house. I think he kept going outside to use his cell phone.
Finally he comes back in and says he still can't get ahold of her and did I want to leave and he'd call me. I told him no, I live 25 miles from here, and that I'd like to get this done. I suggested that we start the signing and she could catch up when she gets here.
Finally she strolls in about 40 minutes late saying she thought the signing was at 7pm. So then with her trying to catch up there were papers flying everywhere back and forth. I'm surprised looking at them this morning that I actually got all the signatures and initials where they are supposed to be.
This guy was so annoying. It was a very very simple HUD and he actually got out his calculator to check the figures over and over again. He finally agreed that they were correct. This "simple" closing took an hour and 10 minutes due to them not being on time. I just felt that they had no respect for my time. This was my fourth closing yesterday and I was anxious to finish my day.
So maybe this wasn't a big deal, but it irritated me beyond belief. Enuf venting.

I Have one that was just as bad. I had a signing for a man about 40 minutes from my location. It had also been rescheduled a couple of times. Thanks Goodness I decided to bring my partner with me to this one. It was at a very bad location. I don't know why I wasn't warned... I was going to sign a borrower and fedex out to his wife in AR. The house was old and dark and very scarrYYY... The guy was very talkative.. nice and seemed lonely. He was talking to me about everything and telling me more than I wanted to hear. He signed all of the 100+ papers and I was finally finished about an hour after I got there. I need him to right a check to sign back in package for closing cost and he proceeded to his room to get his check book. Then returned back to look around the room we were in for a check book.... Then sat down and opened a drawer blocking me in the room and leaving my partner on the other side. He then pulled out a knife and said I hate to do this to you ladies,, this is Betsy and she is 90 years old(talking about his knife).. I am starting to get scared.. This was a huge knife. Then he opens the case for the checks and starts talking to me with the knife in his hand... I was hoping he would put it up but instead he sat it beside him while he filled out the check. At a distace his brother who lives at the home with him appears(he had been out of sight until now) the brother goes to the door and locks the screen on the door. I was not going to stay here any longer. I walked towards the screen door and tried to open it and it had a wierd lock. I had to pull back and open hard, I looked at my partner and said lets go. We practically ran to my car parked across the street and the man was right behind us. I got in my car and locked the door and cracked my window and took the check. He said I was finishing writing the check.. I said I am trying to make fedex..... Talk about creepy.... I don't know if I should do anymore signing at home.... That shook me up!!!

I agree Gina, that knife would have unnerved me too. Mine at least wasn't any threat, just an annoyance with the lack of consideration and respect.
I hope I never have a situation like yours that seems threatening. Most of the time, no one even knows where I am other than the title company or SS. I live alone and so there's no one home waiting for me and wondering where I am. My significant other would be calling me eventually but he'd have no idea where I had a closing so that he could check further. We've often said I should leave the address and phone number with him "just in case". But with so many closings, it would get tedious telling him each time. I suppose I could give him a list and time frame for each before I start my day. Better safe than sorry.

True!!!! Nobody knew where I was either.... This signing was intended for a 6-7pm closing and got changed on another day to yesterday at 3:00. I am glad it was earlier....

Re: Rude - Gina - The scary post...
A little late on this one, but there are few like this. I go to some lowly places and find they are just "people." Two years and never ran into this.

Ideas for all who live alone
Betsy, like you I live alone, but from yours and the post previously I've decided that I will start emailing my schedule with BO name, phone number and address to my special friend and business associate. If he doesn't need the info, it's easy to hit the delete button, but if he ever needs it, he will have it handy.
I feel that this is especially necessary for not only the gals, but you guys as well! And it is not only the BO we have to worry about, but also accidents, etc. And speaking of accidents, my friend is my ICE 1 on my cell phone which we all need to program into our phones. Emergency crews are trained to look for a cell phone and see if there is an ICE number (In Case of Emergency). My ICE 1 also has my ICE 2's number and vise versa. #2 is daughter who lives out of town, but ICE 1 knows if he gets called to call daughter and then go over to my house (if necessary) to get pets. I'm not peronoid (sp?), but cautious. I'm also going to add this to 33325 as I feel it is a good idea.

Re: Ideas for all who live alone
Thanks Dorothy for the reminder about an "Ice" number on your cell phone. I had not updated mine in awhile and just did so.

How do you add an ice number to a cell phone?
