I just faxed my application to them yesterday. There was nothing about a credit check.

I got it too. I have never paid to get work, and I'm not about to start. What the heck makes Stewart think they're so special? I have as many problems with them as everyone else. Background check my patoot !!

I'll send them a copy from another company that did one. There is no way I'm going to pay them or give them my credit card information though. Then they want $10 for you to send them a copy! I think they will find themselves short of notaries here pretty soon.

They want you to use their own subsidiary to perform the check as well. Talk about keeping money in their own pot.

Are these people nuts? They want you basically to give them the right to check your life history and then give it to whoever they want to, and charge you for the priviledge. Too funny.

If Stewart Mortgage is one in the same with Stewart Title, they are one to build a good rapport with. They are one of the front runners to e-notarization. When it hits, they are ready.

Everyone talks about the concern of hackers and increased mortgage fraud with e-notarization. Don't you think maybe they are setting up for e-notarization and want a secure group to work with?

I'm concerned with giving all that information out to them and whoever they decide to give it to. That is part of the idea of getting a federal ID number, so no one can steal your ID.

I too recvd this email ...and found it in my "spam" inbox after reading your post. I agree, I am not going to pay them $40 for a background check on me. If they want it, then they pay for it, but I'm not giving them my cc#. I honestly don't think "stupid" is written on my forehead.
And what if you have no criminal background? So all that money went to waste for a piece of blank paper they will end up getting?!
If they are serious about this, they will be willing to pay for the background check, othewise they will not be hearing from many notaries. And CNSA's who do respond, are in probably for a real treat (if their idenity ends up being stolen). I don't take that chance any more after last year...sorry. I'll find work someplace else who can trust me and my experience (and the knowledge/skills that come with it!)
I'm sure their reasons are justifiable, however, don't make us pay to do the work. If they want it bad enough, it will come out of their own pockets, not our's.

Transunion pulled this same thing years ago...
I would not do it for them, and I won't do it for this company either. By the way, Transunion still called me for jobs, and still occasionally does, without that background check. Transunion, instead of using a credit card, would deduct the $40.00 from payment from your first signing after you agreed to the check.

Re: Transunion pulled this same thing years ago...
so they sort of forced it on you no matter what????? so even when you reject/refused to do it, they still managed to get the $40 out of you to have it done anyhow?????
sorry I think i better re-read that, if you agreed to it, they would deduct from your check instead of using your credit card...sorry. I jsut realized what you said. for a moment it almost sound like they would do it anyhow even if u refused it. but...re-read it...gotcha!
see...now that is different and seems reasonable. but still.
As far as work...yeah, likenotary pro who claims they took me off their data base cuz they don't agree with my fees still calls me a lot for closings. guess their threats are not any good, ha? ...lol
