Turning down work...

I always do feel just a tad bit badly when I decline work. I am a last minute type of person but call comes at 8:15 P.M. for 9 P.M. signing in my area from TC, gotta print, been up since 3:30 a.m., already did a 5 p.m. signing, gotta get to sleep to get up at 3:30 again next day and in fact should be asleep now..... I'm thinking I really should have helped them out, but I say to myself well they should have planned better....Money is not worth, rushing and being tired....

I always feel a little bad too. But it's not worth killing yourself for. GO TO SLEEP. It's ok, really Smile

I never feel bad

There are thousands of notaries within 30 miles of me. My conscience can handle doing something as mean as forcing the SS to make a couple of more phone calls.

Re: I never feel bad

A certain company called me to do a last minute rush. I was already booked but even if I wasn't, I would not have excepted a rush e-doc job for $90. I don't care if it was only 16 mile away.

Re: Turning down work... Not me, bring 'em on!

Up at 5 am. Husband and kids went to 6 am Mass. Returned home and send two kids to school.

Go to Mortgage company for first closing at 10 am. Borrower is a no show. I wait until LO figures out what is going on before leaving. Meanwhile school calls, one son has stomach ache. Planned next closing on location of first closing, which was only 15 miles from Mortage company. I now have to go all the way back to school go get kid. Grandma has no cell phone and is having lunch with friends=no sitter for child that seems to be all better when I pick him up. Don't do this to me my son at month end!

Proceed to 1:30, pump gas and tire looks low. Inflate tire, still looks low. Go to Discount tire, 40 minute wait to have nail removed and tire repaired. Kid's stomach ache is all better, can we go to toys r us? Drop him off at greatgrandpa's to be watched.

Go to 1:30 closing, borrower has expired state ID card...... EVEN Though I told them before hand.............. Pick up another closing ..........

Brother calls, he overbooked and needs bailing out. I do that one for him. Phone rings, get a piggy back for last one of the evening.

Proceed to 5 pm, 6:30 pm and rescheduled 10 am at 8:00 pm had a previous 9:30. Finally at 10:15 I do the last piggy back.

This is what I THRIVE on. Some need their sleep, but I would never say no to something that close, from a title company. Smile Sleeping is for later, there are only so many month end's and you can soooo name your price. Smile

I agree. After 8pm = It'll cost you! My 7pm got docs in at 8:30pm after I said I could not do it. SS says "we'll make it worth your time" I left the house @ 9pm drove 45min. for a no-sign. Home @ 11pm & I don't work for trip fees. Procrastination pays @ EOM.

Re: Turning down work... Not me, bring 'em on!

10 a.m. Grosse Pointe, 1 p.m. Livonia (borrower legally blind, needs a magnifying machine to sign), 2 p.m. Livonia, 3 p.m. Livonia (piggyback, borrower is 45 minutes late), 5:30 p.m. Grosse Pointe again, 7 p.m. Howell ( over an hour drive even without traffic, accident on I-96 forces me off the highway, bad weather hits. Get to borrowers at 7:30 p.m., soft dirt driveway, my foot goes two feet deep into a mud puddle), 9 p.m. Lansing (another one hour drive), 10 p.m. Lansing. Walking in the door at 12:30 a.m. Yeah, I love it. But I'd drop dead doing this on a daily basis. Bye, bye EOM. See ya next month.

Your first four figure day!! That's a definite milestone. Next target is a five figure month. I think I actually cried the first time.

Thanks Al.... I am pretty happy.... I can only hope I reach the five figure month. I know that I owe alot of my success to you and others on the site who have taught me an endless amount of info. This is a nice community here....you can learn alot if you take the time to read and digest the information.

"Poor planning on your part. . .

. . .does not constitute an emergency on my part."

It's on my bulletin board over my desk. I, too, want to help people accomplish whatever they have set out to do, but I have to learn that making myself look bad to make them look good rarely has a happy ending.
