Unprofessional Notary who swears/cusses

Hi Guys,

We refinanced our 2nd loan and got a fixed loan via WAMU. Ofcourse I couldn't sign my own loan, and so they sent a guy. He was an interesting guy to say the least. Says he gets paid an average of $300 - $500 per loan... He walked in swearing, 40 minutes late without a call. (Sorry I'm late, This F****** traffic is F****** slow. Every 3rd or 4th word seems to be some kind of a swearing/cussing word. I finally had to ask him to please cut off the swearing or else that we are not signing this. I have a 6 yr old daughter who was in the house at the time. The last ting I need is for a stranger to be swearing in my home and my dd to pick it up.

The guy had 2 or 3 earings, a nose ring and a toung ring. Was wearing torn black baggy jeans and a t - shirt that said death to all.

I knew that the guy had no clue what the heck he was doing. We asked to see the HUD and the TIL and he just looked at me like I"m nuts. I asked him how many of these he had done, and he say... ***Ummm Ithink about 300***

We did go ahead and finish the signing because we wanted to get it over with and go on with the other stuff I had planned. The never looked at our DL and when I asked, aren't you going to identify us, his answer was, "Ummmm yeah... Are you Mrs Benedict?"

I'm a newbie.. but for heaven's sake, I'm a professional Newbie. I get paid well. (Average I charge is $150). I give the best service I could give as well. I dress professionally, speak professionally and act professionally.

But then I told my husband after he left, I'm glad if he the kid of competition I have. I at the end told him that I was a CLSA and asked him who hired him. He names a TC. I'm tempted to call the TC directly and complain about his behaviour, attire and his swearing...

Just waned to share... Apparently he has been in the business for over a yr and his commision was expiring in March of 2010. Something doesn't add up there... IN CA your commisions are 4 yrs only.

I would call the TC and advise him of the way that person was dressed etc. I believe that the TC needs to know.

I'd call the TC in a heartbeat.

No reputable company wants someone like this representing them.
If someone like that worked for ME, I'd want to know all about it.
Not only was he unprofessional, he is a liability to them (and to the rest of us in the profession).
After 300 signings, I'm surprised he is still working in the field with his behavior.
Go on, rat him out.
I feel it's agents like him who have given agents like you (and me) a bad reputation.
Maybe that's why SS/TC's have reduced agents fees, and micro-manage to the hilt.
JMHO.

Not only should you call your TC and inform them of this NSA's demeanor, language, and appearance, you should put the whole thing in writing to the TC, and then CC your letter to your SOS.

As Notary Publics, we are public officials for the state we are commissioned in. Not only did he not ID you properly, he is NOT a shining example of what your state has in mind when they think "Notary Public".

I wouldn't give it a second thought. Call TC

We had some docs signed for us a couple of weeks ago and when the SA called to confirm the appt. he was unbelievably rude and condensending to me on the phone. I then hung up with him and called LO. "Do not send this guy to my house" I will not tolerate rudeness in my own home. I provide professional service and I believe any one who will be coming to my home should do the same. It just furthers my point "you never know who is on the other end of the phone or behind a door. Treat everyone with respect and courtesy.

Cyndi is right on the money!

NO way would I have put up with such disrespect in my own home. My gosh, he's working in your chosen field and you're on the fence with calling the TC? Professional attire and attitude is first and foremost, you got neither. I would have shown him the door when his first foul mouthed comment slipped through his lips! CALL THE TC! I'm in agreement with everything my peers have stated, he's a loose cannon and I'm not even going to make a call on his attire or his "ornaments". He could have looked like that and been professional so I never judge a book by its cover BUT he gave himself away. Beat feet to your phone!!!

Re: Cyndi is right on the money! thanks Sue

The point is, we (nsa) provide a service. Just because we are independant contractors doesn't give us the right to be complete morons and think we can dress however we like, say whatever we like in the presence of someone who is benefitting from our service. It's the basic principal of customer service. TC and LO can choose not to use us. And that guy was representing the Co from which you got your loan. Now if you weren't is this biz, how would you feel as a BO who knew nothing about TC and SS's. You would probably think this is a freaky company I'm getting my loan through? Run for the hills!!! BTW when I called my LO to tell him about this person who called. He couldn't believe it and thanked me profusly, and that he wouldn't want someone like representing his co.

I agree with you and everyone else on the suggestion to contact the TC and your LO about this. In Fla the commissions are 4 years too.

My other concern is this as well....if he truely was a CNSA...he should had done everything professionally...the fact is...he did not and some of his actions says differently. I would be a little frightened as well concerned about identity theft as well. Its just me...and for a victim of one, I do have that "paranoial" but it is justifiable. Just a concern you should share with the TC and LO.

just a thought....(sorry its just the "overprotection" of me to anyone whose not been a victim of it (yet) ).

Re: VERY scary

I think I would have been calling someone right then to ID him to make sure he was who was suppost to be there. Alarms are going off all over the place but then again maybe I am feeling the same as Dee even tho I have not been a victim.

I CALLED THE LENDER, AND THE TITLE COMPANY BOTH & COMPLAINED

The TC said that they hired a SS to do the signing. They were glad I called and complained... Hey I landed a gig for this Sunday thanks for the idiot notary... When I told the title company that I was a CLSA and that I wouldn't behave or dress the way he did even in my dreams, they were quite unhappy, but wanted to know about my experience and asked if I could give a referal.

A few minutes later called and asked if I would do a signing for them on Sunday.... I"m thrilled...

I also did call the lender and complained to him as well. He said that the TC handled everything but that he was going to call and complain as well.

Thansk all for your advice.. My lender is going to call me back once he receives the paperwork and can get his name/comission number and I will file a complaint with the SOS as well.

I agree, it is notaries like them that gives us all a bad name. This $300 - $500 notary was quite cheap for us.. For notary fees, on the hud it says $200 LOL

I doubt this guy has completed 2 signings.

I think you did the right thing by calling the title company and lender. I'm sure he just feel off the turnip truck right into the signing business. If his comm. expires in 2010 then he just got his comm. right?
He was blowing smoke and trying to cover his ineptness.

IN RESPONSE TO: If his comm. expires in 2010 then he just got his comm. right?

Hey! I'm insulted. My commission expires in 2010 and I've been a notary since 1997. Renewals, you know.

Glad to hear that you're going to inform the SOS as well.

I believe that we should defiantly turn in our contemporaries to the SOS when we see them conducting themselves in an illegal and unprofessional manner.

Being a Notary Public means never giving an appearance of impropriety.

As public officials, we should all be shining examples of being beyond reproach.

This is HALF the reason why you Need A Photo on Your Profile

I admit a professional photo may only tell half of what you are like (because you could still be an idiot) but at least Title/Escrow and/or the LO can SEE what you look like, making sure you APPEAR professional. Hear me out: Of course, if you have blue hair, metal in your face and tats up your neck, you could easily purchase a photo from istockphoto.com (a whole dollar) or ask your normal looking sister for a photo . My point is that a photo is not an assurance that you're normal, but could be a "reasonable" assurance that you at least LOOK "normal" and professional.

Perhaps LO's and Title/Escrow staff could consider asking for professional references but at month's end or just a plain old busy day would/could prevent that question -- no time for that!
I've said it before -- my photo which cost me a bit of $$ has made a real positive difference in my business. Swear!

Re: This is HALF the reason why you Need A Photo on Your Profile

I do not agree at all.

There is too much discrimination in this world against people who are not pencil thin and have features like those in magazines and newspapers. Not to mention there is still a lot of discrimination against skin color.

Pictures allow people to choose according to looks instead of experience and accomplishments. You prove my point with your statement of:

>>>my photo which cost me a bit of $$ has made a real positive difference in my business. Swear!<<<

Re: This is HALF the reason why you Need A Photo on Your Profile

I think half the world has gotten past the issue of race but the other half is still here with us. One of my DILs is not caucasian and I cannot believe of some of the stupid comments the older people in the family make. My uncle's wife is a beautiful black woman and my mother loves her but my mother still says some pretty dumb things...why? Because THAT'S WHAT SHE THINKS and no one can change it.

Tina...I agree with you...there is still a lot of ignorance in this world...maybe by the time our kids are watching theirs graduate from college this world will have matured to embrace and learn from difference...do not separate and close your mind.

I think it's quite obvious that he was feeding you a line of crap. If his commission expires in March 2010 it means that he was commissioned 2 months ago. Which would explain why he had no clue what he was doing. You were probably one of his very first signings, if not THE very first one.
