Unsigned Check?

I deposited several checks this morning. The bank just called and said the one for IREP was unsigned. (I missed noticing that). They are going to try to pass it through. I have called and left a vm with Pam in accounting.
Has anyone else experienced this with them?

I spoke with IREP ILC department this morning and this apparently is happening pretty much everywhere. The guy I spoke with said to deposit it anyway unless my bank wouldn't accept it. If this happens he suggested sending the check to them and they would stamp it and send it back. A relative of mine also received an unsigned check today and didn't have any problems depositing it.

It's an old con game.

The hope is that the banks will reject enough of them to save them a lot of money. Issue enough checks without signatures and some of them will probably never clear the issuing bank. If the payee returns the check to the issuer the company gets more time to actually pay the bill.

Unfortunately for companies that try this scam most banks never look at the signature line anyway and just send it to the clearing house maybe even electronically, but that doesn't stop sneaky companies from still trying the scam.

No bank should accept an unsigned check! I dont know about you, but it would make me nervous if a bank cashed or deposited one of MY checks without my signature. How would the bank know its not a stolen check? What would then be the sence of creating signature cards?

I received one yesterday too. I spoke to my Daughter who is an officer at a National bank and she said they will no Bank will accept the check. Make a copy of the check and then send it back. That way you have a copy to show that it wasn't signed.

I was told by IREP that all 1600 checks went out w/o signatures. A pretty slick trick to hold on to company funds for several more days!!
My bank will not accept the check; and I, along with another notary have gone in halfs to Fed-Ex the checks to IREP overnight with a return Fed-Ex pre-paid envelope to get the checks back as quickly as possible. (We are the kind of notaries that depend on those checks to pay our bills and can't wait for snail mail to get them to IREP and then hopefully get them back.) The unfortunate part of this is that IREP takes no responsibility in assisting us in rushing to our assistance monitarily with their Fed-Ex account. All they can say is "I'm sorry". I wonder how they would feel if that happened to their paycheck?
Now we will just play the waiting game to see if IREP will sign the checks when they receive them by 10:30 tomorrow and get them to a Fed-Ex drop so we can have them by Saturday at 10:30 AM.

Re: Unsigned Check? IREP? Never heard of them having a

problem paying like clockwork...why do you say that?

Anon...when you shipped it Fed Exp..whose account did you use? their's or your's. Since it was their error, they should had paid for the Fed ex, not you. Just curious. I would used their account since they screwed up...& intentionally. -dee

Good advice, that's what I did. I paid the fed-ex so they can't use the excuse that it was lost by usps. Tracking # will tell all. I also paid for the return fed-ex envelope. I should'nt have had to, but the check was substantial, and I did'nt want lame excuses.

Hopefully when your IREP check goes to the processing center, it will clear. My bank would not guarantee my check would. IREP informed me they would not pay any bank charges resulting in a returned check from them, because they feel no responsiblity even though they told us to depost a check without a signature. Hey, we are all notaries, we should know better than to even try to deposit a check without a signatrue, it's too dangerous. IREP would not give me their fed-ex or ups billing number, as I stated, they do not feel any respsonsiblity for this, it is the oldest trick in the book to try to hang on to money for an extended period of time. Hope you dont get hit with a bunch of bad check charges, I would be checking my account daily if I were you.

personally..I think they should be reported!!!!! and after hearing this, I'm not sure I want to work for them any more. I can't take the chance, and I would suggest that you don't either. If they stoop that low to send out that many checks with no signatures and are not willing to take responsiblity for charges, etc...then they are not worth working for. That is telling me they have NO RESPECT for me as a notary who does the work for them. A company who sends out checks intentionally without signatures is a SCAM ARTIST and I refuse to be part of that level of stupidity!
