What all can I do as a notary public
What are all of the different things that a notary public can do. How many diffrenet types of loans are there? I have done three but have no idea what kind of loans they are? Thanks.

"I have done three but have no idea what kind of loans they are"
Joshua, If you have already done 3 loans and don't know what they were, then I suggest you stop doing loans.
How can you give an accurate price quote if you have no clue what the differences are?

I take what the companies offer unless its far from were I live or e doc. I get 100 for edoc and 50 for a single signing

Thats a sure way to get cheated.
I wonder if that would work with my insurance agent, dental hygienist, or at my local grocery store.
Have you ever gone out to dinner and said, "I will pay 6.99 for that $14.99 surf and turf."
That restaurant would be out of business fast...Catch my drift?

I do. But I had no idea were to start as far as pricing. And to me 50 dollars for what took me thirty six minutes sounded good. So what I did today was looked at some peoples web sites and I see that they are starting out at 75 dollars. But I wonder with people out there charging 50 dollars. how much business will those charging 75 dollars miss out on.

Believe me when I tell you, Josh, we are not missing out on anything. My goal hear in my area is to keep all the new inexperienced notaries so busy driving around doing $50 signings that they are too booked to accept the real closings that pay well. I prefer to work smarter not harder. Tomorrow I have four scheduled in two counties. Just two are emailed docs and my average per unit price is over $180. Now you tell me who's missing out.
Do yourself a favor and educate yourself on this business before you do any more closings. You are doing a dis-service to those you serve and you’re fellow SAs by jumping into a new profession without the appropriate knowledge.
Yeah, I get a little ticked off when newbie’s come here with absolutely no experience expecting to make fast, easy money because someone sold them a rash of crap. I spent years of my life and lots of money to educate myself in this business and you newbies come along with your hand held out and a gi'me cry-baby attitude to boot. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Grow up!

Re: Thats a sure way to get cheated.
Josh you need to work smarter not harder. There are plenty of companies that have no problem with paying 75 o/n and 100 edocs and more. Any companies paying 50 for a loan signing are taking major advantage of a notary who hasn't truelly figured out the cost of running the business and making a Profit. Please search fees, lowballing, the cost of business, and do some research. There's a few real good posts that break down what you are really earning for those 50 dollar loan signings. You could make the same at McDonalds if your lucky. Fifty dollars for a doc or two nearby is fine, but not for a loan package.

Ditto! $50 is taking major advantage of the notary. And I like Becca's way of thinking. Let the inexperienced newbies run around for that $50. It will keep them out of the real playing field.

DO THE MATH
3 years ago as a newbie I accepted $50 O/N docs and $75 E-docs. The cost of living (think of fuel) has increased by leaps and bounds. The only reason you're being offered $50 is because you will accept what you are offered. Not to mention that you are inexperienced and unknowledgeable in the field. If you want to make a go of it, you need to take your business seriously. Know your states notarial laws and procedures like nothing else. Learn about the docs. Maybe hire a mentor or trainer. If you aren't willing to do those minimal things, this may not be the right position for you.

JOSHUA.....
Did you read the entire thread of #33325 yesterday like you were told to do. I cannot believe if you did that you would still be saying some of the things you are saying???
Go back to message #33325 and read it again as well as ALL the messages that show up underneath it. There are 70 of them... some at the top are just comments but then you see where more and more information was added onto the thread. There is a TON of stuff... about fees and diversification and marketing... it is our gift to newbies... (In my opinion... waaayyyy too generous but who asked me???)...

I"m doing a signing this weekend that is paying me $150
and I'm a newbie as well. I've only been doing this part time for 4 mths, but you know what, I'm a professional. I do thorough work and I do a good job and make sure I get it done right, the first time around.
I researched on the prices, but I decided what I thought I was worth for my time and quoted that price. So far I've not had any problem getting work.
I would rather do 1 loan at $150 (e-docs, about 40 minutes drive from home) than do 3 signings to make that much money... Just my opinion
My pricing depends on how many borrowers are there, will they be there at the same time, whether it is a purchase, heloc, refinance....

Joshua, just a question..how far do you travel for $50
I've never agreed to a $50 signing. The lowest I've done is $90 (w/ e-docs) but the borrowers were literally less than 1/2 mile from my home
You just cannot be making any money doing $50 signings..? Don't sell yourself short. If you believe that you are good and that you can do a "great" job, and that you are a professional, then raise your prices.

If you're very lucky, maybe you'll be being a busy notary...
But you will NEVER end up being a sucessful one with that approach.
