Where is my whistle? Boycott letters... again...OT

Just got a note from a notary to boycott Tyson's and McDonald's for illegal hiring practices. (Think: today's big news stories.)

Two comments -

1-Tyson is supporting a five person unit in my family, and another 12 person unit in another branch of my family. Am I going to boycott or promote that? No.

2-Do we even know that this is reality?

This is becoming an email passtime. It's smear campaigning in my opinion.

--Awhile back I was contacted by a "friend" to boycott Barnes and Nobles because they hired gay people.

--Back in the 70's Colgate-Palmolive was supposed to be shunned for being run by a bunch of Satanic witches. Untold damage was caused to this company.

--For some reason I cannot remember I am supposed to boycott Starbucks.

I don't like these kinds of letters so if you send them to me, please stop. It just burns me up. Makes me want a Big Mac and I don't even like them. If you want me to boycott anything, please send me documented proof of why. Leave the "undocumented" causes for the ignorant. I have no interest.

And, let me tell you something else...if it is not because of something illegal I am not going to join a group of boycotters. I don't like the NNA, I keep my dollar from them-- but do I say BOYCOTT? No. I use my discretion and would never tell someone else what to do about them. It's a personal freedom to choose.

I want facts to make decisions. Give me facts and let me decide what to do.

Some folks need to get out there and do something besides spreading this lifestyle hate and "undocumented" venom.

Don't assume I am liberal in politics because you'd be wrong. I support our president. These so called conservative bulletins I am getting have gone so far to the right they are touching the far left. Hype, hype, and hype.

--Talk to me or write to me with calm, rational logic and leave out the hype and emotion.

--Don't rattle on and pontifcate. Get the points to me and make sure you include the source.

--Cut back on your exclamation points because I automatically discard an email when I see about five of them in the first page.

If you will do these things maybe I can influence someone in my circle. Otherwise, it just sounds like ignorance that belongs on Snope.com.

Thank you for letting me vent.

I agree with you. If there is no documented proof, then do not bother forwarding it..

I cannot begin to tell you how much I dislike those "chain" type boycott emails. It seems that since email has come into play, it is so much easier to create this junk and forward it to thousands in a flash and then forwarded on and on. These people forwarding do not take time to investigate to see if it's true...With just a touch of a button you can send it on to junk up someone else's email.

I also dislike those emails that say: "forward this to ten people now, or you'll never get rich/never get kissed/have bad luck for the rest of your life." ---or my personal favorite: “Send this email to ten people within 10 minutes and Microsoft will send you a new computer—it works, it really does!!!!!”

I feel it is of poor taste to send emails such as this to professional notaries, unless you are on a personal level.

She was also a personal friend and I like her very much, but I don't like the chain letter you describe or the boycott people letters.

Well, now I am curious. Is it of poor etiquette to tell a friend or family member not send you junk emails? I will have to consult with the “Emily Post’s Etiquette” book to see if it is in there.

I'm sick to death of being told how to think, where to shop, etc. etc. etc. by these well meaning chain letter senders. I can make up my own mind. And truth be known, most of them would be down right shocked at my politics. I really don't care for those certain groups that want to impose their beliefs/politics on others.

Like Brenda, I delete them.

Re: Boycott....

the boycotters!!!!! And if you don't send to 15 boycotters in the next 15 seconds you will suffer untold boycottting for the rest of your life. Or at least the next 15 minutes! So there Brenda!

Tyson and McDonalds

I don't know anything about a boycott letter. But what was reported on either nbc or cbs was that Tyson shut down some plants yesterday in support of the protests. They said that McDonalds had some restraunts close early (can't remember if it was in support or because they knew they'd be shortstaffed). They named some other companies but I can't remember which ones. I for one will consider the boycott but I already blew it and took the kids to McDonalds.

I think it would be much more effective to vote out of office those who support legalization.

Re: Tyson and McDonalds - It's okay SB - make an assp out of

Oh I agree on the letters definately. And the only reason we get them now is due to email technology. No way in heck would people take the time to write these out, stuff the envelope, stick a stamp on it, and walk to the mailbox. Instead we just get more junk emails.

If I were to choose not to purchase products from these companies it would be because of their stance on the issue and not because somebody sent me an email.

I thought it was interesting though that someone tried to start a movement to boycott so quickly. But seriously there are better ways.
