gas prices

I have been wondering if the signing companies are going to raise their fees with the raise in gas prices. A company got upset with me recently they asked me if I would do a signing for them in a location that was not close to me first of all, and then when they quoted the price I told them I couldn't do it for that amount of money because it wouldn't pay for the gas to get there.

Sometimes I don't think that they realize that this a business and that I live off of the money that I make doing this. I don't have anyone else to pick up the slack, it all falls back on me. It's like when they don't pay on time and I have to pay late fees.

The one thing I hate to have to do is call them on a daily basis asking for my money. I did the job on time and I well let me rephrase that we should be paid on time. I have been seriously considering charging them a late fee. I don't know if that is legal or not.
