new one on the block
Hello all,
I am new with the signing agent stuff. I was an escrow officer for about a year and a half and was laid off and still trying to find a job. I notarized docs before and i am familiar with the closing docs. i signed up with a signing service. my question is if i sign up with a signing services can i still set my own fee's on the side? like for example i decide to work with a ss and they offer me 50.00 per signing, but then i have someone look me up in this site but i charge a dirrent amount is that possible? am i only bonded to one ss at a time? i have no idead i am only a notary for 1year and a siging agent for well i just got certified 3 days ago.
any advice?
thanks for your time

Aurora - you are an INDEPENDENT contractor as a signing agent. YOU set your fees not the signing service. (You call a plumber, do you tell him what you will pay him?) You are not bonded to one particular signing service. You need to sign up with as many as you can.

First of all, you are not bound to anyone who calls you. You can set your own fees to be whatever you want them to be. You might be charging an SS one fee and a TC another fee.
Just out of curiosity...did you read any of the posts here before you asked your questions? I wondered because there's a post to "newbies" about 10 posts before yours. You would do well to read it.
Good luck!

Re: new one on the block- I find this so interesting
in reading your post, I'm sorry I couldn't help but notice the spelling, don't get me wrong I make plenty of typos myself. However this brought to my attention the many docs that come with wrong address, wrong spelling on borrowers name, and the many errors on docs we as notaries get.....would you mind if I ask your brief background with regard to work prior to the escrow position.

Aurora: Getting started as a signing agent takes a lot of hard work, effort, research and time. If you need assistance with this, take a look at my profile and if you like...give me a call and we can talk. Feel free to contact me at the ph# listed on my profile.
The individual that suggested you do a search and look for items posted as "newbie" info is a great idea. Several individuals have come on here seeking information being new just like yourself. I am sure you could learn some new things from those previous postings.
Good Luck,
Jennifer Rundall
